LS SABTANG (MSSU NELZN)

Description:
Height: Approximately 18-20 meters (Tower)

Design: Cylindrical tower with a red lantern room and unpainted concrete or rubble facade, this lighthouse stands out from its counterparts on Batan Island due to its rounded form and organic masonry finish.

History:
The Sabtang Lighthouse, located in Malakdang, Sabtang Island, Batanes, Philippines - near Sabtang Port, overlooking Balintang Channel, was constructed in 2006 as part of a Trio of modern lighthouses (along with Basco and Tayid) to guide seafarers across the challenging waters of the West Philippine Sea and the Pacific.

Since its operation, it has served as a critical maritime navigational aid for vessels entering Sabtang, especially through Balintang Channel. In late 2022, the Philippine Coast Guard equipped Sabtang Lighthouse with upgraded navigational lighting and solar systems, improving safety for fishermen and passing vessels.

Cultural Value:

Iconic symbol of Sabtang; first man-made structure visible from arriving boats; blends modern function with Ivatan architectural aesthetics.
