Bioflyt Agriventures, a standout startup from ALPHA Hub, is championing the circular economy through innovative Black Soldier Fly (BSF) technology. By transforming food waste into premium organic fertilizers, they are providing sustainable, eco-friendly alternatives for a greener planet.
We salute Bioflyt for turning environmental challenges into high-value solutions!
A local agriculture leader on Tuesday presented Black Soldier Fly (BSF) technology as a scalable solution for organic waste management during the inception workshop of the EU-PH Green Economy Partnership Circular Biohubs Project.
Aldwin Torquido, president of Negros Island Sustainable Agriculture and Rural Development Foundation Inc., said BSF systems can significantly enhance biowaste processing by converting organic waste into high-value outputs.
He said BSF larvae efficiently transform food waste into protein-rich animal feed and organic fertilizer, offering an eco-friendly alternative that supports sustainable agriculture and aquaculture.
The technology forms a core component of the Circular Biohubs Projectโs decentralized model, which integrates waste processing with livelihood generation and community-based enterprises.
Torquido said BSF systems can be scaled from micro to industrial levels, with large facilities capable of processing between 5,000 and 100,000 kilograms of organic waste per day through largely automated operations.
He added that even small-scale systems handling 5 to 10 kilograms of waste can generate significant economic returns, demonstrating the technologyโs potential for community-level adoption.
BioFlyt, a Bacolod-based enterprise operating in Barangay Felisa, is among the partners supporting the deployment of BSF technology in the projectโs pilot sites.
The presentation underscored the role of innovative waste-to-resource technologies in advancing the Circular Biohubs Projectโs goal of reducing waste, creating livelihoods and promoting sustainable, circular economy systems in Bacolod City.
