𝐇𝐀𝐏𝐏𝐄𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐓𝐎𝐃𝐀𝐘: DEPDev NIR joins 37th National Statistics Month kick-off, calls for stronger culture of evidence-based planning

The Department of Economy, Planning, and Development (DEPDev) Negros Island Region (NIR) joined the Philippine Statistics Authority and regional partners in the opening of the 37th National Statistics Month (NSM) today, 06 October 2026, at Robinsons Place Dumaguete City. The celebration began with a motorcade from Quezon Park and followed by the Opening Ceremony this morning.

This year’s observance carries the theme, “Tuklas Pilipinas: Statistics as Beacon Towards Inclusive, Resilient, and Sustainable Tourism,” which underscores the role of reliable data in guiding the growth of the country’s tourism sector.

The program featured a lecture series by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas on personal financial management, covering savings, budgeting, and investing, and on financial literacy, linking the use of sound information to everyday household decisions.

In his message, DEPDev NIR OIC-Regional Director Marlon T. Jinon emphasized the critical role of statistics in shaping policies, programs, and investments that respond to the needs of communities. “𝘖𝘶𝘳 𝘤𝘰𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘱𝘶𝘳𝘴𝘶𝘪𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘭𝘶𝘴𝘪𝘷𝘦, 𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘵, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘴𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘥𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘭𝘰𝘱𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘥𝘦𝘱𝘦𝘯𝘥𝘴 𝘰𝘯 𝘢 𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘨 𝘤𝘶𝘭𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘦𝘷𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦-𝘣𝘢𝘴𝘦𝘥 𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘥𝘦𝘤𝘪𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯-𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨,” Jinon said. The NSM is observed every October pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 647, which aims to promote, enhance, and instill nationwide awareness and appreciation of the value and importance of statistics in evidence-based decision-making and national development.
