The Mines and Geosciences Bureau, Negros Island Region warns that the heavy rainfall may trigger landslides and floods in the areas of Negros Island Region classified as susceptible to landslide and floods based on the Geohazard Maps (1:10,000 scale).

It is advised that the LGUs refer to the Geohazard Maps previously distributed to the respective provinces/municipalities/cities and attached to this Advisory, HazardHunterPH website, Mines and Geosciences Bureau-Negros Island Region page, and take precautionary measures to include possible pre-emptive evacuations if necessary. Roads and bridges prone to landslide and flood hazards may also be closed if necessary based on actual
conditions on the ground.

The Comprehensive Training on 2D Georesistivity Survey Techniques: Principles, Data Acquisition, Processing, and Interpretation for Subsurface Characterization was successfully conducted on June 15โ€“19, 2026, at Montebello Hotel, Cebu City, gathering participants from MGB Regional Offices VI, VII, and VIII, as well as the Negros Island Region (NIR).

The activity formed part of the capacity-building initiatives under the National Mineral Reservation Program (NMRP), aimed at strengthening the geophysical investigation capabilities of MGB personnel. Spearheaded by MGB Regional Office VII through its NMRP Focal Person, Senior Geologist John Christopher Santos, the training sought to enhance the Bureau's technical competencies in subsurface characterization and mineral exploration through the application of georesistivity survey techniques. It likewise aimed to strengthen regional camaraderie, promote knowledge sharing, and further capacitate MGB geologists within the Visayas Cluster through collaborative learning and hands-on field experience.

The training featured lecture sessions led by Dr. Mel Anthony A. Casulla of MGB Regional Office XII, covering the fundamental principles, applications, survey design, data acquisition procedures, quality control measures, and interpretation of electrical resistivity surveys.

Participants also gained hands-on experience through an actual 2D georesistivity survey conducted at Carmen Copper Corporation on June 17, 2026. The field exercise covered survey line establishment, electrode deployment, equipment setup, and field data acquisition โ€” providing participants with practical exposure to georesistivity survey operations under real field conditions. Following the fieldwork, participants processed and interpreted the acquired datasets using specialized geophysical software to generate two-dimensional subsurface resistivity models.

The training culminated in a synthesis session where participants presented their group outputs, including survey methodologies, processed resistivity sections, interpretations, and corresponding recommendations.

The five-day training successfully strengthened participants' competencies in georesistivity surveying and enhanced the Bureau's capability to undertake subsurface characterization and mineral exploration activities in support of the National Mineral Reservation Program and other geoscientific initiatives.
