The Environmental Management Bureau–Negros Island Region (EMB-NIR) OIC, Regional Director Vicente S. Losbañes expressed the agency’s full support for environmental protection and sustainability initiatives during the opening ceremony of the 34th Provincial Environment Month Celebration held on June 5, 2026.

The event, spearheaded by the Provincial Government of Negros Occidental through the Provincial Environment Management Office (PEMO), gathered representatives from national government agencies, local government units, the academe, development partners, and various stakeholders committed to advancing environmental stewardship in the province.

In his message of support, Director Losbañes underscored the importance of collective action and strengthened partnerships in addressing environmental challenges and promoting sustainable development. He reaffirmed EMB-NIR’s commitment to working closely with local governments, partner agencies, and communities in implementing environmental programs and ensuring the protection of the region’s natural resources.

The opening ceremony was led by Provincial Environment Management Officer Atty. Julie Ann Bedrio and featured messages from key environmental leaders, including DENR-NIR Assistant Regional Director for Technical Services Engr. Joan Nathaniel F. Gerangaya. Also delivering a keynote message was British Embassy Manila Economic and Climate Counsellor Lloyd Cameron.

The month-long celebration aims to raise environmental awareness and encourage active participation among stakeholders in advancing climate action, resource conservation, and sustainable environmental management across Negros Occidental.

The observance of Provincial Environment Month serves as a platform to strengthen collaboration among government agencies, private sector partners, and communities toward achieving a greener, more resilient, and sustainable future.

The Environmental Management Bureau – Negros Island Region (EMB-NIR) joined the kick-off celebration of Environment Month on June 1, 2026 at the DENR-NIR Regional Office.

In his message, EMB-NIR OIC Regional Director Vicente S. Losbañes, thanked DENR-NIR for its continued support in the operationalization of EMB-NIR and encouraged all personnel to work together in reducing environmental footprint and promoting positive change toward a more sustainable Negros Island Region.

The activity formally launched the month-long Environment Month celebration anchored on the theme “Aksyon Klima: Bayanihang Mapagkalinga sa Kapaligiran.”

Air Quality Index (AQI) levels in the region were generally recorded "𝐆𝐎𝐎𝐃" to "𝐅𝐀𝐈𝐑" categories. However, elevated particulate matter levels were observed in some areas, reaching "𝐔𝐍𝐇𝐄𝐀𝐋𝐓𝐇𝐘 𝐅𝐎𝐑 𝐒𝐄𝐍𝐒𝐈𝐓𝐈𝐕𝐄 𝐆𝐑𝐎𝐔𝐏𝐒" category.

𝐏𝐔𝐁𝐋𝐈𝐂 𝐒𝐀𝐅𝐄𝐓𝐘 𝐑𝐄𝐌𝐈𝐍𝐃𝐄𝐑𝐒:
• Limit outdoor activities if not necessary
• Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated
• Wear a face mask when going outside
• Keep windows closed if the air outside is dusty or smoky
• Monitor the health of children and elderly family members
