DILG ORDERS STRICTER ENFORCEMENT OF PUBLIC ORDER RULES UNDER SAFER CITIES PROGRAM

Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla has directed the Philippine National Police (PNP) to step up enforcement against public disturbances, including street drinking, late-night karaoke, public indecency, and curfew violations.

During a press briefing on Monday, April 6, Remulla introduced the “Safer Cities Initiative,” a nationwide program aimed at improving peace and order in urban areas. He emphasized that drinking in public spaces and setting up tables along streets for such activities are prohibited, noting that these often lead to conflicts and harassment incidents.

The directive also includes discouraging individuals, particularly men, from walking shirtless in public places as part of promoting proper conduct. Authorities will also strictly implement curfew hours for minors, typically from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m., and enforce limits on karaoke use, which is generally allowed only until 10 p.m.

The initiative will first be implemented in Metro Manila before expanding to other key cities such as Cebu, Baguio, Bacolod, and Davao. Remulla said local government units will be asked to pass or strengthen ordinances supporting the program.

As part of the plan, more police officers will be deployed in public areas, including schools, to ensure safety during school hours. Increased police visibility is also expected in nightlife districts and other crowded locations.

The DILG expressed confidence that these measures will help reduce crime and improve public safety across the country.

* Cavite Province : Imus City, Cavite City (Rescheduled) at Bacoor City (Updated Venue)
* Laguna Province : Sta. Rosa City (Rescheduled)
* Rizal Province : Antipolo City
* Quezon Province : Lucena City

Pinapaalalahanan ang mga target na benepisyaryo na dalhin ang kanilang valid driver’s license at photocopy nito para sa pagtanggap ng cash assistance, at makipag-ugnayan sa kani-kanilang lokal na pamahalaan, partikular ang opisina ng City Social Welfare and Development Office, ukol sa nasabing sschedule ng payout.

UPDATE:
*As of 12:55 PM (April 9, 2026), ang payout sa Sta. Rosa City, Laguna at Cavite City ay marereschedule sa ibang araw ayon sa Crisis Intervention Section ng Field Office.

Ang mga tricycle drivers sa mga nasabing lungsod ay pinapayuhang maghintay ng abiso mula sa lokal na pamahalaan para sa bagong schedule ng payout.

*Samantala, ang payout sa Bacoor City ay gaganapin na sa Molino Gym.
