The community of Itab, Aguinaldo, Ifugao, is now able to boost corn production and local poultry farming, amid volatile weather driven by climate change, with the provision of Flat Bed Dryer and Chicken Coop Facility by the DA-AMIA Program, turned over on August 06, 2026.
The flatbed dryer is a specialized mechanical drying system with the capacity of 6tons per batch, designed to reduce moisture content in corn grains which ensures quality preservation regardless of weather conditions. It eliminates the heavy reliance of farmers on sun drying, prevents post-harvest losses and ensures higher market value. On the other hand, a Chicken Coop Facility is a biosecure poultry shelter for communal chicken raising that keeps poultry safe from extreme weather, threats of predators and diseases which results in healthier flock growth.
The AMIA program continues to play a crucial role in empowering local agricultural sectors to withstand the growing impacts of climate change. Mr. Crisante K. Rosario, AMIA Focal Person, emphasized the core mission of the program, to strengthen organizational capacities, and assist in the establishment of sustainable agribusiness enterprises, by supporting farming communities through these interventions. Further, he shared that the groundwork for the project began in 2024, through a series of inception meetings, orientations, and collaborative efforts with the LGUs and other notable stakeholders. Through their participatory rural appraisal and needs assessment, the program identified that the community needed these agricultural facilities to better capacitate BFAC in sustaining their farms, and livelihoods with the introduction of integrated farming systems. This integration of livestock with traditional farming shifts farmers from reliance on a single crop, effectively recalibrating the farmerโs practice from focusing on a single crop into diversification.
Mr. Nestor Humiwat, OIC APCO Ifugao, congratulated BFAC and reminded the cooperative that the success of the project does not end during the turn-over, marking only a beginning of greater responsibility. He added that these are investments entrusted in the community and encouraged everyone to work together so these facilities become an instrument of greater agricultural productivity and provide opportunities for higher income.
In his acceptance speech, Mr. Johnny Andaya, BFAC Chairman, expressed his gratitude to the program and its stakeholders for their hard work in securing the agricultural facilities as he wished the AMIA program continued success and expressed hope that it expands to reach more beneficiaries.

According to Mr. Monsoon Eblahan, BFAC Vice-Chairman, these facilities have brought about positive changes to the community, as he shared that the post-harvest drying facility gave farmers the assurance to expand their corn farm, and the chicken coop was observed to significantly reduce native chicken mortality by keeping them safe from predators.

She highlighted how farmers previously had to sell their corn at bargain prices due to quality loss during the drying process.
