๐ฉบ Beyond Beauty & Care: Training the Next Generation of Health Allies! โจ
As part of our proactive pre-celebration of National Infection Prevention and Control Week, the BGHMC Infection Prevention and Control Unit (IPCU) took IPC advocacy into the community!
On June 26, 2026, we conducted a specialized Basic Orientation in Infection Prevention and Control for TESDA students training in Nail Technology (Manicure, Pedicure, and Pedology) and Caregiving.
Whether managing patient care or handling salon tools, these future professionals are on the front lines of safety. Our team equipped them with the vital knowledge needed to protect both themselves and their future clients from infection risks.
Here is a look at the high-impact topics covered:
The Nail Tech as a Health Ally ๐งผ | Ms. Chisum C. Indalos opened the session with an overview of IPC in community settings, diving deep into Sterilization vs. High-Level Disinfection (HLD)โcritical for reusable metal nippers, pushers, and blades.
Invisible Risks ๐ฉธ | Ms. Czarina T. Mendoza-Teneza discussed the transmission dynamics of bloodborne pathogens like HIV, HBV, and HCV, emphasizing why strict safety protocols are non-negotiable.
Standard Precautions ๐๏ธ | Ms. Michelle M. Sepulchre reinforced the foundational pillars of patient and client safety: proper Hand Hygiene and Respiratory Etiquette.
Personal Protective Equipment ๐ก๏ธ | Mr. Greg D. De Guzman demonstrated the correct donning and doffing of PPE, focusing heavily on sharp-safety and preventing accidental skin punctures.
The productive day concluded with closing remarks and the awarding of certificates led by Dr. Rhodelie D. Matbagan (Head, QIIPCPS), celebrating the students' commitment to integrating clinical safety standards into their vocational skills.
Thank you to our TESDA trainees for your enthusiasm and dedication to becoming certified health allies in your fields! ๐
