SEPTEMBER 9, 2026 | BANGAR OFFICIALLY DECLARED DRUG-CLEARED

The Municipality of Bangar, La Union was officially declared a Drug-Cleared Municipality during the 5th Regional Oversight Committee on Barangay Drug Clearing (ROCBDC) Deliberation and Validation for C.Y. 2026 held today, September 9, 2026 at the PCV Socio-Civic and Cultural Center in Barangay 1, Bacarra, Ilocos Norte.

Led by Mayor Joy P. Merin, the municipal delegation successfully defended Bangar's compliance and drug-cleared status before the oversight panel, addressing queries on documentary requirements, anti-drug programs, and sustainability mechanisms.

The declaration marks the culmination of a sustained drug-clearing campaign that began in 2016. Over the years, Bangar cleared 32 out of 32 drug-affected Barangays – 9 in 2017, 8 in 2018, 3 in 2019, 2 in 2020, and another 3 in 2022, followed by 7 in 2023.

It is, however, emphasized that the declaration is not the finish line. From 2024 to present, the focus has shifted to sustaining the victory —strengthening barangay anti-drug councils, expanding reintegration and aftercare programs, and ensuring continuous community monitoring and anti-drug operations to prevent resurgence.
