In continuation of the search and rescue (SAR) efforts for the reported Man Overboard (MOB) incident involving MV HC PROGRESS, the Coast Guard District Bicol (CGDBCL), in coordination with the Tactical Operations Wing Southern Luzon (TOWSOL), conducted an aerial search operation approximately 142.65 nautical miles northeast of Bagamanoc, Catanduanes, on 01 October 2026.

Prior to the aerial operation, CGDBCL and TOWSOL coordinated the designated search coordinates, passenger information, and search pattern to support the mission. Despite initial delays due to adverse weather conditions, the TOWSOL team proceeded to Bicol International Airport (BIA), where CGDBCL personnel conducted the mission briefing and coordinated the operational requirements.

An NC-212i aircraft (No. 2119), with CGDBCL and TOWSOL personnel onboard, departed BIA and conducted a sector search pattern at an altitude of 5,000 feet over the designated search area. The aerial search yielded negative results, with no sighting of the reported person.

Following the evaluation of the aerial search findings, active surface search operations were suspended pending new actionable information. Passive search efforts will continue through the dissemination of Maritime Safety Information (MSI) broadcasts to vessels operating within the area.

CGDBCL remains committed to maintaining coordination with concerned agencies and maritime stakeholders while continuing efforts to support search and rescue operations and safeguard lives at sea.

The Coast Guard District Bicol (CGDBCL) conducted continuing search and rescue (SAR) operations on 30 September 2026 following a reported Man Overboard (MOB) incident involving MV HC PROGRESS, a Hong Kong-flagged vessel with MMSI 477149800, which was reported on 27 September 2026 while transiting approximately 142.65 nautical miles northeast of Bagamanoc, Catanduanes.

Upon receipt of the report, Coast Guard Station Catanduanes coordinated with its Sub-Stations and Mobile Teams for monitoring and appropriate action. CGDBCL also coordinated with Coast Guard Radar Station Catanduanes and CGWCEIS Bicol to conduct radio challenges with vessels transiting the area for possible sightings of the reported person.

As part of the continuing response, Coast Guard Cessna Caravan PCG-2081 was deployed to conduct an aerial search over the reported location. The aircraft conducted aerial reconnaissance and documented the target coordinates through photographs and video.

The aerial search was subsequently terminated due to deteriorating weather conditions and limited visibility, with no sighting of the reported person during the operation.

Meanwhile, CGDBCL continues to coordinate with the Tactical Operations Wing Southern Luzon (TOWSOL) and other concerned agencies regarding the possible deployment of additional aerial assets to augment the ongoing search operations.

The Coast Guard District Bicol remains committed to maximizing available resources and strengthening inter-agency coordination in support of search and rescue operations and the protection of lives at sea.
