In celebration of National Disability Rights Week, the DICT Tawi-Tawi Team, in partnership with the Tawi-Tawi Provincial Local Government Unit and the Local Government Unit of Bongao, conducted a Cybersecurity and Data Privacy Awareness training for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) on July 24, 2025.

A total of 12 participants took part in the training, which guided them with essential knowledge to protect their personal information and navigate the digital world with confidence. They learned how to identify online risks, understand their digital rights, and adopt safer online practices. The session also introduced them to eGOVph, enabling them to successfully download and verify their accounts, making access to government services easier and more secure.

This initiative reflects a strong commitment to building a digital community that is smart, safe, and inclusive for all.

Scammers take advantage of your compassion, pretending to be typhoon victims, volunteers, or even government workers. They craft emotional stories, use stolen photos, and pressure you into donating or clicking shady links.

All you wanted was to help but instead of reaching real victims, your support ends up in the hands of fraudsters solving their personal financial problems. Some will even trick you into giving your bank or GCash details, just because you opened your heart.

Science Technology and Engineering Program (STEP) students from the Tawi-Tawi School of Arts and Trades engaged in hands-on robotics training facilitated by the DICT Tawi-Tawi Team on July 19 and July 22, 2025.

The workshop introduced students to robotics using block programmingโ€”a visual, beginner-friendly approach that simplifies coding and robotic control. Through fun and interactive activities, participants explored the practical uses of technology while learning key concepts in logic, coding, and automation. The collaborative environment encouraged teamwork and peer learning as students designed and tested basic robotic functions, gaining hands-on experience to support future tech-based learning.

This initiative is part of Project SPARK, under the ICT Literacy and Competency Development Bureau (ILCDB) of the DICT, which aims to empower young Filipinos with digital skills and inspire them to pursue opportunities in the growing tech industry.

The DICT Tawi-Tawi Team conducted a Cybersecurity Awareness Training focusing on issues relevant to todayโ€™s digitally engaged youth on July 22, 2025, at the Pag-asa Elementary School.

The training was specifically designed for students and teachers aimed to help them recognize harmful behaviors online, understand the emotional impact of cyberbullying, and learn how to respond appropriately. With many young learners increasingly drawn to online games, it also highlighted the importance of setting healthy boundaries in gaming, identifying inappropriate content or interactions, and practicing digital discipline.

This initiative is part of DICTโ€™s broader commitment to digital literacy and online safety. By guiding both students and educators, the program encourages safe digital habits within the school community.

The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) โ€“ Tawi-Tawi conducted a Basic Digital Literacy Training for employees of the Bangsamoro Telecommunications Commission (BTC) on July 18, 2025, at the DICT Tawi-Tawi Provincial Field Office.

The morning session focused on spreadsheets, covering basic functions, data entry, and organization. In the afternoon, the spotlight shifted to word processing, with hands-on exercises in document creation, formatting, and editing.

Aligned with DICTโ€™s commitment to digital empowerment, the training guided BTC employees with essential skills to improve their productivity and adapt to evolving digital workflows, fostering a more efficient and tech-ready workplace.

The DICT Tawi-Tawi Team paid a courtesy visit to the Municipality of Sitangkai, where they were warmly welcomed by Mayor Allan K. Ahaja and other local officials. The visit aimed to enhance coordination between the national agency and the local government unit (LGU) in support of ongoing efforts toward digital transformation in the municipality.

Key discussions centered on current and upcoming projects under the Free Wi-Fi for All Program, digital literacy training, and other ICT development initiatives designed to improve public service delivery and promote digital inclusion in the community.

Mayor Ahaja expressed his strong support for the DICTโ€™s programs and reaffirmed the LGUโ€™s commitment to working closely with the agency to help bridge the digital divide in Sitangkai.

The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) โ€“ Tawi-Tawi, in partnership with the Provincial Local Government Unit (PLGU), conducted a Basic Digital Literacy Training for Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) at the Tawi-Tawi Provincial Jail on Friday, June 20, 2025.

Participants were guided through foundational digital skills, such as typing and simple digital tasks. The training aimed to equip them with the practical knowledge needed to begin engaging with technology in a meaningful way.

This ongoing initiative reflects DICTโ€™s commitment to making digital empowerment inclusive and far-reaching affirming that digital education should be a right, not a privilege, for every Filipino, regardless of life situation or social condition.
