We mourn with and stand in solidarity with the Ateneo de Zamboanga University community following the tragic shooting incident in Zamboanga City.

Our heartfelt condolences and prayers go to the victims, their families, students, faculty, staff, and everyone affected by this deeply distressing event.

May this tragedy strengthen our collective resolve to protect our schools and institutions, uphold peace, and ensure that every learner and educator can live and learn without fear.

We stand with Ateneo. We pray for healing, justice, peace, and safer communities for all.

HE DID NOT JUST GRADUATEβ€”HE LEFT A LEGACY.

There were countless moments when Edzy could have chosen himselfβ€”his deadlines, his academics, his own future. He could have used every remaining hour to make sure he finished everything on time. But for the sake of the students he promised to serve, he sacrificed his time, comfort, and personal priorities.

From student politics to becoming a Student Regent, from leading as President of the MSU System Student Councils to championing youth empowerment, volunteerism, and genuine student representationβ€”he proved that leadership is not measured by titles, but by the lives touched and the real impact created.

Behind every achievement were sleepless nights, difficult choices, unseen sacrifices, and a heart that continued to serve even when the journey became exhausting.

And today, that same student servant leader proudly graduates CUM LAUDE!
Alhamdulillah! we always knew you could make it!

Congratulations, Edzyyyy Boy! You have already made a meaningful difference in the lives of students and in society. VOICES remains firm.

While we respect and entrust the matter to the proper University authorities and due process mechanisms, our commitment to accountability, transparency, and student welfare does not end here.

We will continue to raise legitimate student concerns, advocate for the rights and welfare of students and youth, and stand as a platform where voices may be heard and issues affecting our communities may be constructively discussed.

Calling for accountability is never political, it is a moral responsibility. Seeking transparency is not an attack, it is a democratic right.

For the students. For the youth. For Tawi-Tawi.

Since 2012, VOICES has remained steadfast in one principle: to uphold and defend the Rights, Welfare, and Democratic Participation of every student.

We will not be silenced in demanding transparency. We will not be discouraged in pursuing accountability. We will not waver in protecting student welfare.

Because student leadership exists to serve students, not the other way around.

In faithful service to the Iskolar ng Bayan, we stand firm β€œTransparency. Accountability. Student Welfare.”

A Statement from the Voluntary Objective Coalition of Empowered Students (VOICES)

The Voluntary Objective Coalition of Empowered Students (VOICES) wishes to make one thing clear..

Our calls for accountability, transparency, and constitutional compliance do not arise from politics. They arise from the concerns of the students we represent and the principles we believe should guide student leadership.

Public office is a public trust.

This principle does not only apply to government officials. It equally applies to student leaders who are entrusted with the representation of students, the management of student funds, and the responsibility of upholding the Constitution and By-Laws of the institutions they serve.

Calling for transparency is not political.
Calling for accountability is not political.
Asking questions about public funds is not political.
Demanding compliance with constitutional provisions is not political.

These are moral obligations and democratic responsibilities of every student and every student leader.

VOICES has never existed merely to criticize individuals or organizations. Since our establishment, we have consistently spoken on issues affecting students, Tawi-Tawi, the Bangsamoro, and the nation. We have raised concerns on educational issues, youth welfare, public policy, governance, peacebuilding, and matters that directly affect our communities.

We have done so regardless of who sits in power.

Because advocacy is not a campaign.
Accountability is not a publicity stunt.
Transparency is not a political strategy.

These are values.
These are responsibilities.

And these are principles that should be upheld by everyone entrusted with public service.

Today, we continue to stand with students who seek answers, transparency, and responsible leadership. We do not seek conflict. We seek clarity.

We do not seek division. We seek accountability.

We do not seek personalities. We seek principles.

At the end of the day, the issue is simple:

Students deserve to know.

Students deserve transparency.

Students deserve accountability.

And student leaders, like all public servants, must remain faithful to the trust placed upon them.
