TAGUIG CHECKPOINT CLASH: TWO ARMED SUSPECTS FALL; PNP TRACES FI****MS TO PAST SHOOTINGS
The Philippine National Police, under the leadership of Chief, PNP PGEN Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., is intensifying efforts to track down fleeing suspects and determine whether recovered fi****ms are linked to previous shooting incidents following an armed confrontation during an Oplan Sita checkpoint operation in Barangay Western Bicutan, Taguig City, on October 22, 2026.
Personnel of the Taguig City Police Station Sub-Station 2 flagged down four motorcycle riders for verification after noticing helmet violations. During the encounter, two suspects allegedly drew fi****ms, pointed them at the officers, and fled in different directions. Two sought refuge inside a nearby residential structure and opened fire despite repeated police calls for their peaceful surrender, prompting officers to return fire in defense of their lives. Both suspects were subsequently neutralized.
Background checks revealed that one of the suspects had previous arrests for kidnapping for ransom and serious illegal detention in August 2026, as well as frustrated homicide in September 2026. The other had records involving two separate murder cases committed in October 2023 and February 2024.
Police recovered two fi****ms, including a Jericho 9mm pistol, for ballistic examination to determine whether they were used in shooting incidents in Taguig City on September 29, October 12, and October 15, 2026. A black motorcycle bearing a defaced engine number was also recovered for macro-etching examination and ownership verification.
Meanwhile, one of the two fleeing suspects was identified as an 18-year-old male with previous records involving kidnapping for ransom and serious illegal detention, violations of Republic Act No. 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, and attempted robbery with violence or intimidation. Authorities are intensifying efforts to locate him and identify the fourth suspect.
Authorities are preparing charges of direct assault, resistance and disobedience to a person in authority, and grave threats against the fleeing suspects. Additional charges under Republic Act No. 10591, or the Comprehensive Fi****ms and Am******on Regulation Act, are also being finalized.
PGEN Nartatez stressed that armed resistance would not deter the police from carrying out their duties while upholding the law. “Every armed threat must be addressed decisively, and every piece of evidence must be examined thoroughly to establish the facts and hold those responsible accountable,” he said.
He also underscored the importance of pursuing suspects who evade arrest. “Walang puwang sa ating mga komunidad ang mga armadong kriminal. Patuloy nating paiigtingin ang paghahanap sa mga tumakas at sisiyasatin ang posibleng kaugnayan ng mga nakumpiskang baril sa mga nagdaang insidente ng pamamaril,” he added.
The operation supports the PNP Focused Agenda, particularly Enhanced Managing Police Operations, which strengthens efforts against armed threats and criminal activity.
As the PNP intensifies its campaign against armed criminality and pursues leads to resolve shooting incidents under the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., it remains steadfast in its commitment to “Bagong PNP para sa Bagong Pilipinas: Serbisyong Mabilis, Tapat, at Nararamdaman.”
