A Filipino was born whose pen awakened a nation.
Today, we commemorate the 165th Birth Anniversary of Dr. Jose Protacio Rizal Mercado y Alonso Realonda, the Philippines' National Hero whose life, works, and ideals continue to inspire generations of Filipinos.
Born in Calamba, Laguna on June 19, 1861, Dr. Jose Rizal used his writings to awaken national consciousness and give voice to a people striving for reform, justice, and dignity. Through his masterpieces, Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo, he exposed the realities of colonial rule and helped shape the Filipino people's journey toward freedom, identity, and nationhood.
As we honor his enduring legacy, may we continue to uphold the values he championed and work together in building stronger communities, a more progressive city, and a better nation.
