DOH Campaign Warns Youth: 𝐖𝐚𝐠 𝐌𝐚𝐠𝐩𝐚𝐥𝐨𝐤𝐨 𝐬𝐚 𝐕𝐚𝐩𝐞 𝐚𝐭 𝐒𝐢𝐠𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐥𝐲𝐨” 𝐀𝐦𝐢𝐝 𝐑𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐕𝐚𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐬

The Department of Health (DOH) continues to promote the campaign “Wag Magpaloko sa V**e at Sigarilyo” as part of its efforts to raise awareness about the harmful effects of to***co and v**e use, particularly among Filipino youth during World No To***co Day and National No Smoking Month observances.

Despite ongoing campaigns, va**ng remains a growing concern. According to the 2023 National Youth To***co Survey, more than 2.1 million Filipino youth, or 7.7 percent of middle and high school students, are currently using e-cigarettes. A study by the Institute for Global To***co Control (IGTC) of the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health found that existing regulations may not be sufficient to curb youth va**ng.

Researchers noted that v**e products continue to be marketed in youth-appealing ways through flavored products, cartoon imagery, and social media content. Health advocates have expressed concern that these marketing strategies make va**ng more attractive and accessible to minors despite existing restrictions.

In support of this advocacy, the Local Youth Development Office (LYDO) of Naawan invites talented and creative young individuals to participate in the Interpretative Poster Painting Contest, Sayawit Competition, and Quiz Bee. These activities aim to promote healthy lifestyles and encourage youth involvement in to***co and v**e prevention efforts.

Carrying the theme, “Wag Magpaloko sa V**e at Sigarilyo,” the competitions seek to empower young people to become advocates of a smoke-free and v**e-free community through art, music, knowledge, and positive action.
