🔬 EXPANDING THE HEALTH RESEARCH NETWORK!

On September 4, 2026, the Northern Mindanao Consortium for Health Research and Development (NorMinCoHRD) conducted On-Site Visits and Validation for the membership applications of two prospective members:

📍 Mindanao State University at Naawan (MSU at Naawan)
📍 Research Institute for Mindanao Culture (RIMCU), Xavier University

The validation team included Dr. Amelda C. Libres, Dean, College of Medical Laboratory Science, member of the NorMinCoHRD Research Management Committee (RMC); Bonita B. Manguilimotan, NorMinCoHRD Regional Coordinator; and Dr. Heide R. Rabanes, NorMinCoHRD Vice-Chair, RMC, and Dean for Research at Xavier University.

🤝 NorMinCoHRD looks forward to welcoming new institutions into the consortium and further strengthening Northern Mindanao’s health research community!

Together, we continue to build a stronger network for collaboration, research excellence, and meaningful impact.

Strong prompts begin with strong thinking.
Dr. Dave E. Marcial, Director of the Global Studies Center, emphasized the link between prompt engineering, critical thinking, and ethical AI use.

He shared that while there may be no way to completely prevent students or researchers from using AI, the better approach is to educate them on values, accountability, and responsible use.
Dr. Marcial also demonstrated examples of ethical and unethical AI prompts, which helped participants better understand how to use AI in research.

The session became highly engaging as participants took part in hands-on exercises where the speaker presented sample outputs, such as images, on screen. Participants were then challenged to use AI tools to recreate similar outputs through their own prompts to demonstrate how clarity, creativity, and critical thinking shape the quality of AI-generated work.

AI can assist, but humans must lead.
Prof. Lerma L. Paris, Chairperson of the Committee on Information Dissemination, Training, and Advocacy of the Regional Ethics Monitoring Board VI (REMB-VI), emphasized that humans should always remain at the core of every research.

She highlighted that while AI can make research writing easier and more efficient, it must never replace expert judgment. Responsible AI use requires human oversight, bias mitigation, digital sovereignty, and ethical decision-making to ensure that research remains accurate, accountable, and human-centered.
