PNP POSTS 36% DECLINE IN FOCUS CRIMES IN SEPTEMBER
Under the leadership of PGen Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., Chief, Philippine National Police (PNP), the eight focus crimes recorded a significant decline in September 2026, with cases dropping by more than one-third compared with the same month last year.
PNP crime data showed 2,063 focus-crime cases in September 2026, down from 3,226 cases in September 2025, representing a decrease of 1,163 cases or 36.05%. From July to September 2026, the PNP recorded 7,233 cases, or 3,063 fewer cases than the 10,296 cases recorded during the same period last year, equivalent to a 29.75% decrease.
The September figures showed declines in r**e cases, from 723 in September 2025 to 309 in September 2026, or 57.62%; carnapping of motor vehicles, from 26 to 11, or 57.69%; physical injury, from 417 to 231, or 44.60%; carnapping of motorcycles, from 214 to 121, or 43.46%; theft, from 1,176 to 803, or 31.72%; robbery, from 336 to 254, or 24.40%; and homicide, from 97 to 92, or 5.15%. Murder cases, meanwhile, increased slightly from 237 to 242, or 2.11%.
The PNP attributes the continuing downward trend to a combination of sustained police visibility, focused crime-prevention operations, timely police response, and coordination with local governments and communities. The active support of the public, particularly in reporting incidents and providing information, also helps police units respond where they are needed.
These efforts are being carried out under the PNP Focused Agenda and Enhanced Managing Police Operations (EMPO), with crime data and actual conditions on the ground used to guide police deployment, visibility, and operational priorities.
“The decrease is the result of different efforts coming together—our personnel staying visible, communities reporting concerns, and police units acting on information and incidents as they come. Hindi lang ito trabaho ng pulis; malaking bahagi rin ang pakikipagtulungan ng ating mga kababayan,” PGen Nartatez said.
The Chief PNP emphasized that the figures will not be used as a reason to ease police presence, particularly in areas where certain crimes continue to occur. Police units have been directed to continue monitoring local crime patterns and adjust their deployment and prevention measures accordingly.
The PNP will sustain its coordination with communities, local governments, and other partners in support of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s peace and order agenda, while continuing to deliver responsive police service under the banner of “Bagong PNP para sa Bagong Pilipinas: Serbisyong Mabilis, Tapat at Nararamdaman.”
