CALAPAN CITY, ORIENTAL MINDORO — September 17, 2026 — In the midst of grief, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) MIMAROPA Regional Office reached out to the bereaved family of an overseas Filipino worker (OFW), reaffirming the government’s commitment to stand beside migrant workers and their families in times of loss and difficulty.

Led by DMW MIMAROPA Regional Director Carlo B. Villaflores, PhD, the Regional Office visited the wake of Jabeth De Guzman Dakila, an OFW from Malaysia, at Barangay Malamig, Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro, who passed away due to cardiogenic shock and other underlying medical conditions.

The visit served not only as an expression of sympathy but also as a concrete manifestation of the government’s continuing commitment to extend assistance to OFWs and their families—especially during the most difficult moments of their lives.

During the visit, DMW MIMAROPA personnel provided guidance and assistance to the family in the filing of financial assistance in connection with the death of the OFW, helping them navigate the necessary requirements and avail of the appropriate government support.

“Behind every OFW is a family waiting, hoping, and praying. When an OFW comes home not as they had hoped, the government must be there—not only with programs and assistance, but with compassion and care,” said RD Villaflores.

For the Dakila family, the loss of Jabeth is more than the loss of a worker overseas. It is the loss of a loved one, a family member, and someone whose life and sacrifices were woven into the hopes and dreams of those left behind.

Through its continuing assistance to OFWs and their families, DMW MIMAROPA underscores that no migrant worker and no bereaved family should have to face such difficult circumstances alone.

The Department of Migrant Workers remains steadfast in its mandate to protect the welfare of Filipino migrant workers and ensure that government assistance reaches them and their families—especially when it matters most.

In times of work, in times of hardship, and even in times of grief, DMW MIMAROPA remains by the side of every OFW family.
