Typhoons turn rain into a destructive force that disrupts vulnerable communities’ access to water. Lithos Manufacturing challenges this irony by developing a cost-effective device for collecting, storing and filtering rainwater for use in sanitation and hygiene.

Created by chemical engineer Eleanor M. Olegario, each ML Foldable Tank can carry 1,000 liters of water, which is drawn from rooftops using a system of pipes. The water is processed through a nanotechnology-based Zeramic filter, which neutralizes acid, absorbs heavy metals and filters out organic materials to sanitation-safe levels.

Olegario received the National Award for Inventors from the World Intellectual Property Organization in 2024. Her invention was a winner of IPOPHL’s Socially Relevant Technologies Project in 2023 and was a finalist at the 2025 Filipinnovation Awards.
