The City Nutrition Center successfully conducted a three-day training on Maternal, Newborn, Infant, and Young Child Health and Nutrition (MNIYCHN) for newly volunteered Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS) on August 24โ26, 2026, held at the City Nutrition Center.
The training aimed to equip our new BNS with essential knowledge and practical skills in promoting proper maternal, newborn, infant, and young child health and nutrition at the community level. It focused on the importance of the first 1,000 days of life, maternal nutrition and care, essential newborn care, breastfeeding and complementary feeding, growth and development, nutrition assessment, and the prevention of malnutrition and common health concerns among mothers and young children.
The sessions also emphasized the vital role of BNS in nutrition education, community mobilization, early identification of nutrition and health concerns, referral of at-risk individuals, and supporting families in adopting healthy practices.
Serving as resource persons were Dr. Roy P. Maribojoc, MPH, City Nutrition Action Officer; Ralph Maribojoc, City Nutrition Program Coordinator; and Cristina Soria, RN, Nutrition Center Nurse.
Through this training, the City Nutrition Center continues to strengthen the capacity of our BNS as frontline partners in delivering nutrition and health services and in building healthier, better-nourished families and communities.
