We all see the world through different lenses. We carry different experiences, face different challenges, and need different kinds of support. When it comes to mental health and su***de prevention, understanding these differences matters.

That is why the spaces we create and the support we provide must be 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿-𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲. Our policies, programs, and interventions should be able to meet people where they are and respond to what they need.

This World Su***de Prevention Day, PCW calls on all GADvocates to continue creating spaces where people feel safe to speak, reach out, and be heard. Let us be there for those who are going through something difficult and remind them that 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝘄𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗶𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺 𝗶𝗻 𝗶𝘁.

Salient features of the Revised Tourism Code of the City of Catbalogan and on Gender Sensitivity and Awareness were discussed during the said training.

Last August 19, 2026, representatives from several accommodation establishments and venues attended the 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿-𝗜𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗧𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗺 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘀 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 (𝗚𝗜𝗧𝗦𝗧) and Orientation of City Ordinance No. 2025-014 or the "Revised Tourism Code of the City of Catbalogan".

The training was the second conduct for this year and was aimed at equipping local tourism enterprises in recording different tourism statistics as facilitated by the Catbalogan City Tourism, Culture, Arts & Information Office (CTCAIO).

Apart from hotels and accommodation establishments, the training was targeted as well for venues and facilities used for meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions or MICE in Catbalogan.

This is being supported by the Catbalogan City Tourism Council (CTC) and the Catbalogan City Gender and Development Focal Point System (GFPS) both headed by City Mayor Dexter Uy.

Apart from the knowledge on tourism statistics, the activity aims to ensure that tourism work spaces be free from biases and for our tourism workers themselves to be sensitive and equipped to deal with varied tourists, guests and clients ensuring that captivating Catbaloganon brand of service.

Happening at Bodega Venue, the training is part of the continuing training series of the Catbalogan City Tourism, Culture, Arts & Information Office (CTCAIO) and target participants are from primary tourism enterprises specifically for accommodation establishments as well as venues and facilities used for meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions or MICE in Catbalogan.

The summer months of April and May bring a surge of activities in Catbalogan City with the numerous barangay fiestas, alumni reunions, and conducted trainings around the city, which in turn drives unprecedented growth for our hotels, and other tourism enterprises and stakeholders.

Large-scale gatherings and high visitor turnover historically increase the vulnerability of a destination to human trafficking and exploitation. To ensure that our economic success does not come at a human cost, the City must proactively professionalize its tourism frontline through specialized anti-trafficking training.

In partnership with the Catbalogan City Gender and Development Focal Point System (GFPS) and the Local Committee on Anti-Trafficking and VAWC of Catbalogan City (LCAT VAWC), the Catbalogan City Tourism, Culture, Arts & Information Office (CTCAIO), is organizing the 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿-𝗜𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗧𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗺 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 (𝗚𝗜𝗧𝗔𝗧) among Tourism Enterprises and Partner Agencies on Anti-Trafficking on May 19-22, 2026 at Youth Center.

We expand the definition of a "Safe Space" beyond the prevention of street harassment to include the active detection of more severe forms of exploitation. This alignment transforms our tourism enterprises into the city’s primary line of defense, ensuring that every public and private space in Catbalogan remains a sanctuary for both residents and guests.

The proposed training provides our partners with the "behavioral indicators" necessary to identify potential trafficking situations, such as unusual guest patterns or signs of coercion and others. By empowering our workforce with this knowledge, we move from reactive policing to a proactive culture of protection, where every room attendant, tourism frontliners, and other stakeholders act as a trained guardian of the city’s dignity.

We have rolled out today, May 09, 2026 the 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿-𝗜𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗧𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗺 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 (𝗚𝗜𝗧𝗔𝗧) among Community Pageant Candidates, Enthusiasts, and Organizers in partnership with Manaragat Organization held at Kinatbalogan City Museum and City Library.

Participants were candidates from Hiyas han San Andres at Barangay San Andres and Lakambini han Maulong organized by the Sangguniang Kabataan ng Barangay Maulong.

Aligned with the 2026 National Heritage Month (NHM), the training was geared towards assisting these young individuals to effectively use the platform to advocate awareness and involvement among the community, promote the city's heritage, and be role models and impactful influencers.

Putting gender perspective and raising gender sensitivity and awareness, coordinator for MOVE or Men Opposed to Violence Everywhere, Mr. Ronaldo Espino shared among the participants invaluable insights to the gender situation in our communities and on how, as cave guides, environmentalists and advocates help in the advocacy.

We have rolled out the first day yesterday, February 16, 2026 our 🥾 Gender-Inclusive Skills Enhancement Training (GISET) Cave Surveying and Mapping Training with Samar Mountaineering and Outdoor Club, Inc. as part of the 2026 National Arts Month (NAM) celebration this month of February 2026.

This activity is a follow-through of the July 2025 Cave Reconnaissance, which led to
the discovery of 24 newly-identified caves in the city’s upland barangays, including
San Andres. The training forms part of the City Government’s efforts to properly
document, manage, and regulate cave resources in line with sustainable ecotourism
development.

This year’s National Arts Month (NAM) celebration aims to harness the creative energies of artists towards nation-building, integrate the arts into the lives of diverse populations and communities (LGBTQIA+, PWD, IP, Youth, Senior, etc.), and engage critical discourse, awareness, and appreciation of various arts and art disciplines through different emerging platforms.

This is being led by the City Government of Catbalogan headed by City Mayor Dexter Uy through the Catbalogan City Tourism, Culture, Arts & Information Office (CTCAIO) with support from the Local Culture & the Arts Council of Catbalogan City (LCAC).
