A flavorful celebration of culture and heritage took center stage at the recently concluded IFEX Philippines, where Samar proudly showcased the richness of its culinary traditions through a successful food demonstration.

Through “Secret Kitchens of Samar: Heritage Flavors Reimagined,” a culinary heritage mapping and food narrative project, Kitchen Heroes and culinary advocates Teodula Joanne Labro, Virginia Boller, and Rosario Roxas-Zabala brought Samar’s heritage dishes to life with modern interpretations rooted in tradition.

The presentation highlighted the richness, creativity, and evolving story of Filipino gastronomy—proving that every recipe carries a story, every flavor preserves memory, and every kitchen keeps culture alive.

From the vibrant performances of the Manaragat Festival to the live demonstration of Tamalos and Bola Catalana, Samar showcased not just food, but identity.

Through the presentation of the Samar brand, the journey of Secret Kitchens of Samar, and the continued support of cultural champions like Eric B. From the kitchens of Samar to the National Book Awards stage.

The Secret Kitchens of Samar Book Series, already internationally recognized, is now honored as Best Book on Food at the 43rd National Book Awards by the National Book Development Board, a proud milestone for Samar and for Philippine culinary heritage.

Our deepest gratitude to author Clang Garcia, and to the farmers, fisherfolk, cooks, and communities of Samar who inspired this work. This recognition belongs to all of you.
