CALBAYOG CITY, Samar โ The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Samar successfully conducted the Samar Provincial Coconut Summit on August 27โ28, 2026 at the Baypark Pavilion, Calbayog City, bringing together coconut farmers, industry stakeholders, partner government agencies, financial institutions, and local government representatives to strengthen collaboration toward a more competitive and sustainable coconut industry in the province.
Carrying the theme โBuilding a Stronger Coconut Industry, Empowering Communities, Sustaining Futures,โ the two-day summit provided a platform for participants to learn about government programs, technologies, market opportunities, financing support, and other interventions available under the Coconut Farmers and Industry Development Plan (CFIDP).
Discussions covered key areas such as coconut industry updates, farm productivity and rehabilitation, climate-resilient farming, processing technologies for coconut by-products, value-adding opportunities, farmer organization and cooperative development, traditional copra trading, and financing and investment opportunities for coconut farmers and micro, small, and medium enterprises.
The summit also featured open forum sessions where farmers were able to raise concerns, seek clarification, and engage directly with concerned agencies and industry partners. These exchanges highlighted the importance of coordinated support across production, processing, financing, organization, and market development.
DTI Samar expressed its appreciation to the City Government of Calbayog, participating national government agencies, financial institutions, resource persons, industry partners, farmer organizations, and all participants whose support and active involvement contributed to the successful conduct of the summit.
The activity reaffirmed a shared commitment among stakeholders to help coconut farmers move beyond traditional production by promoting higher productivity, value addition, stronger market linkages, access to financing, enterprise development, and greater farmer participation in the coconut value chain.
Through sustained collaboration with its partners, DTI Samar will continue to support initiatives that transform coconut resources into viable enterprises, stronger livelihoods, and inclusive economic opportunities for communities across Samar.
