Beat the heat this summer!

As the heat index in various parts of the country reaching up to 51°C according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA)—the National Nutrition Council (NNC) strongly advises the public to ensure adequate hydration during the summer months.

Proper hydration is essential to prevent dehydration, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke, especially with increased fluid loss due to excessive perspiration. As recommended in the Philippine Dietary Reference Intakes (PDRI), daily water requirements vary by age, s*x, and physiological condition. Pregnant and lactating women require additional fluid intake.

In addition to drinking water, consuming water-rich fruits and vegetables such as watermelon (pakwan), coconut water (buko juice), cucumber (pipino), chayote (sayote), and cantaloupe (melon) can further support hydration and overall health.

The NNC also emphasizes the Department of Health’s guidance on taking appropriate protective measures during peak heat hours.

Let us all stay well-hydrated, nourished, and protected during this summer season.

As of 2:00 pm today, 01 May 2025, A new Low Pressure Area(LPA 05a) is being monitored inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) and has a LOW chance of development into a tropical Depression within the next 24 hours .
