Corum strikes gold, Layco earns bronze in 2026 Palarong Pambansa

AGUSAN DEL SUR — SDO Cavite City Bay Warriors once again showcased their talent and determination on the national stage as Renzo S. Corum captured the gold medal in Wushu Sanda Group B (48 kg) while Harcin Graciel Joy M. Layco secured a bronze medal in Aerobic Gymnastics Individual-Women during the 2026 Palarong Pambansa held in Agusan del Sur.

Corum delivered an outstanding performance in the highly competitive Wushu Sanda event, displaying exceptional skill, discipline, and determination en route to the championship.

Meanwhile, Harcin Graciel Joy M. Layco demonstrated grace, precision, and resilience in the Aerobic Gymnastics Individual-Women category, earning a well-deserved bronze medal against some of the country’s finest young gymnasts.

Corum and Layco’s success was made possible through the guidance and support of Coach Alexander Bagayao and Coach Fely Rose Española.

As the country’s premier sporting event for student-athletes continues to celebrate young Filipino talent, the accomplishments of these medalists serve as a reminder that dedication, hard work, and determination can transform dreams into reality.

SDO Cavite City empowers non-major teachers

DepEd Cavite City recently conducted the Division Training of Non Major Teachers Across Learning Areas, which enhanced the pedagogical skills, content knowledge, and specific instructional strategies of non-major teachers last May 20–22 at Hotel Dominique in Tagaytay City.

The three day training bridged the gap between existing teaching skills and the specialized content knowledge required to move learners from struggling to proficiency, transforming out of field teachers into a position of strength so that every learner could receive high quality instruction regardless of the teacher’s original major.

Schools Division Superintendent Gregorio Co lead the initiative as he discussed the General Shaping Paper of the K to 10 Curriculum in the first plenary session.

Training objectives included enabling participants to demonstrate a thorough understanding of K 12 curriculum competencies for their assigned non major subjects; utilize subject specific strategies; develop and adapt contextualized learning materials that simplified complex concepts; and create valid, reliable assessment tools tailored to each subject area.

Participants are comprised of non major teachers across various learning areas, content area specialists, and each learning area’s core team.

The training emphasized teachers’ professional growth through hands on workshops where they designed lesson plans and received peer feedback to refine classroom approaches.

Facilitators reported early indicators of impact as teachers developed contextualized lesson plans ready for immediate use and established assessment strategies to track student progress.

"The initiative represents a sustained effort to ensure equitable learning by investing in teachers’ capacity to address targeted learning effectively," said Regin Rex Tosco, Chief Education Program Supervisor, Curriculum Implementation Division.

The seminar also included Alternative Learning System (ALS) teachers to strengthen pathways for out of school and non formal learners, by capacitating teachers to ensure continuity of support beyond the formal classroom and share flexible approaches that can be adapted for diverse learning contexts.
