The CCENRO Urban Biodiversity Management Team, along with Septage Management and Solid Waste Management Teams, conducted an Information and Education Campaign about Mangrove Management on three consecutive Sundays of May from May 17 to May 31 at the coastal sitios of Brgy. Inayawan.

This campaign aimed to raise awareness about our mangrove forest and the services it provides to the community, especially for those living in the coastal areas. Included in this meaningful discussion were the current status of our mangrove forest, city ordinances and national laws for mangrove protection, septage and solid waste management, and initiatives and future plans of the Cebu City Government in relation to mangrove forest management.

This initiative will continue in the succeeding months until all residents living in the coastal communities are informed about mangrove management.

Together, let's raise awareness for the betterment of our mangrove forest for the present and future of our coastal communities.

The CCENRO Solid Waste Management personnel served as resource speakers during the recently concluded Summer Youth Camp organized by the Cebu City Sangguniang Kabataan Federation (SKF), held on May 28, 2026 at Carcar Central National High School located on P. Nellas Street, Poblacion III, Carcar City, Cebu.

The activity aimed to strengthen the environmental awareness and responsibility of the youth through an informative discussion on Solid Waste Diversion and proper waste management practices. Included in the discussion were important Local City Ordinances which highlighted the city’s initiatives and regulations in promoting environmental protection and sustainable waste management.

Through this meaningful engagement, participants were able to expand their knowledge and deepen their understanding of their vital role in preserving the environment and building a cleaner, greener community for future generations.

For this particular deployment, we are prioritizing experienced hikers, climbers, and professional trail organizers who can navigate the challenging terrain seamlessly.

𝗕𝗘𝗢𝘀 𝗙𝗥𝗢𝗠 𝟰 𝗕𝗔𝗥𝗔𝗡𝗚𝗔𝗬𝗦 𝗖𝗢𝗠𝗣𝗟𝗘𝗧𝗘 𝗗𝗘𝗣𝗨𝗧𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗦𝗘𝗠𝗜𝗡𝗔𝗥

In line with strengthening environmental governance and community-based enforcement, Barangay Environmental Officers (BEOs) from Barangays Sta. Cruz, Bulacao, San Antonio, and Poblacion successfully participated in a two-day Deputation Seminar held yesterday and today at the CCENRO Conference Hall.

The seminar aimed to equip participating BEOs with the necessary knowledge, skills, and understanding of environmental laws, local ordinances, and proper enforcement procedures in support of environmental protection and conservation efforts within their respective barangays.

𝙏𝙃𝙀 𝙋𝙊𝙒𝙀𝙍 𝙊𝙁 𝙊𝙐𝙍 𝙍𝙄𝙑𝙀𝙍 𝙏𝙍𝙊𝙊𝙋𝙀𝙍𝙎

Demonstrating strong environmental commitment, the Cebu City Environment and Natural Resources, River Troopers successfully conducted a clean-up activity along the banks of Lahug River in T. Padilla on May 25, 2026.

The initiative brought together with our dedicated troopers who worked tirelessly to remove accumulated waste, restore portions of the riverbank, and promote awareness on proper waste disposal and environmental protection.

The activity is part of the group’s continuing efforts to help preserve local waterways and support cleaner, safer communities.

Despite challenging conditions along certain sections of the river, the River Troopers remained committed throughout the activity, collecting various types of debris and significantly improving the immediate surroundings of the area.

JOINT VENTURE AGREEMENT (JVA) FOR GROUNDWATER REGULATION DRAFTED

To ensure the long-term sustainability and protection of Cebu City’s vital water sources, the Cebu City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CCENRO) has officially drafted the Joint Venture Agreement (JVA) framework for localized groundwater regulation.

Earlier this morning, a coordination meeting was held with Vice Mayor Tomas Osmeña, who has spearheaded the city’s aggressive strategies for groundwater management and water security. The discussion focused on laying down structural safeguards to prevent the over-extraction of our aquifers and protecting our community’s water supply from environmental depletion.

What’s Next?

📋 Formulation of Joint Committees: Actively engaging various stakeholders, environmental experts, and sectors to collaborate on the implementation framework.

🏛️ City Council Resolutions: Securing the necessary legislative backing to institutionalize these regulatory measures city-wide.
