RESERVISTS IN ACTION DURING BUHING KALBARYO 2026

Today, April 3, 2026, marks the 29th staging of the Buhing Kalbaryo held in observance of Good Friday. This significant religious tradition brought together various sectors in a unified effort to ensure a solemn, organized, and meaningful event.
In anticipation of the large influx of devotees, the local government prioritized public safety and security. As part of its continuing commitment, the Philippine Army Reserve Force was mobilized to assist in maintaining peace and order throughout the activity.
The Citizen Army soldiers of Cebu, under the leadership of COL EDGAR G. MANGABAY INF (GSC), PA, Group Commander of the 7th Regional Community Defense Group, RESCOM, PA, actively supported the conduct of Buhing Kalbaryo 2026.
The 1901st Ready Reserve Infantry Brigade, led by BGEN ERIK MIGUEL R. ESPINA (GSC), MNSA, PA (RES), was deployed to manage crowd movement and ensure the safety of participants. The event gathered an estimated five thousand devotees at San Nicolas Church and Espina Compound in Guadalupe, Cebu City.
The Army Reserve Force in Cebu Province remains committed to its mission—serving the people and upholding public safety at all times.

Instead of holding a year-end celebration, the 1901st Ready Reserve Infantry Brigade chose to share the true spirit of the season with the Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL) at the BJMP–Mandaue City Male Dormitory, under the leadership of BGen Erik Miguel R. Espina.

The day began with a Holy Mass led by Father Anton Velarde, setting a solemn and meaningful tone for the activity. After the Mass, the PDL were given the opportunity to showcase their talents—an inspiring display of hope, creativity, and resilience that deeply touched everyone present.

The celebration was truly successful, as the PDL joyfully received the gifts prepared especially for them. Their smiles and heartfelt appreciation served as a powerful reminder that compassion and shared humanity transcend all walls.

The Brigade extends its sincerest gratitude to its generous sponsors—Engr. Honrado, Sir Salon, Sir Rustia, Mrs. Padilla, TMS Lodge, and the kind-hearted students of CIT-University, Sections 11 Modesty and 12 Obedience—for their invaluable support and contributions. The 1901st Auxiliary proudly stood shoulder-to-shoulder with various government agencies, local groups, youth organizations, and community volunteers in a united effort to clean the White Road dumpsite in Barangay Inayawan, Cebu City.

Despite the rain and the heavy workload, everyone showed heart, teamwork, and commitment — proving that real change begins when communities come together with one purpose. 🌱💪✨

LOOK! In a display of unity, compassion, and service, the first wave of Project RISE has successfully reached Sitio Paril, Lamintak Sur, Medellin, Cebu—bringing much-needed relief to families affected by recent challenges in the area.

Under the steadfast leadership of COL EDGAR G. MANGABAY INF (GSC) PA, Group Commander of the 7th Regional Community Defense Group, Reserve Command, Philippine Army, and in coordination with the 1901st Ready Reserve Infantry Brigade led by BGEN ERIK MIGUEL R. ESPINA (MNSA) GSC PA (RES), our troops actively supported this humanitarian operation on the ground.

The mission, spearheaded by the Rotaract Metro Club – CIT Chapter, was made possible through the combined efforts of student organizations from Cebu Institute of Technology–University and the CIT CES-SHS . Through this collaboration, over 350 families received water, hygiene essentials, and other vital support.

This initiative embodies the spirit of “Pamilya, Nasud og Kagawasan”—a reminder that service to the people is service to the nation. The 1901st RRIBde continues to stand ready and responsive, upholding its mandate with honor, pride, and dedication.

Our commitment to humanitarian assistance and disaster response does not end here—this is only the first wave of many efforts to come. Side by side with civilian partners and stakeholders, we carry on the mission for the Filipino people.
