Upgrading the City's Data Storage Infrastructure
The City of Cebu is upgrading its data storage infrastructure, a critical step towards enhancing its data management capabilities. This initiative, led by the Management Information and Computer Services (MICS) department and supported by Mayor Mike Rama and Acting Mayor Raymond Garcia, aims to provide the city's constituents with a more efficient and effective data storage system.
The MICS team headed by Engr. Dax Arcilla have thoroughly researched and evaluated the best strategies, ultimately identifying Hyper-Converged Infrastructure (HCI) as a standout solution. HCI integrates compute, storage, and networking into a single system, simplifying management, allowing flexibility, improving cost efficiency, and optimizing performance.
"Our mission is to build a strong and flexible infrastructure that can efficiently handle the growing data demands of our city," said Arcilla. "With Hyper-Converged Infrastructure, we are not only modernizing our data centers but also ensuring that we provide top-tier services to our constituents."
This strategic upgrade marks a pivotal step in advancing the city's technological landscape, promising improved services and enhanced data management capabilities for years to come.

Embracing the Future: Cebu City's Vision of Smart Infrastructure
Cebu City, renowned for its history and culture, marks its 87th Charter Day under the theme "Embracing the City of Delights, Sights, and Lights." The Management Information and Computer Services (MICS) invites all to their booth at SM City North Reclamation, 3rd floor, formerly SM trade hall, offering a glimpse into Cebu City’s future digital infrastructure.
At the heart of the display is Cebu City’s vision for a Smart Traffic System and Smart Street Lighting System, integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) to revolutionize urban mobility and safety. Features include no-contact apprehension, an online traffic violation system, and interoperability with national and local agencies for efficient traffic management.
Beyond traffic, the Cebu City Government plans data-driven solutions for geo-hazards, flood control, and health. A city-wide health information system will track and respond to public health issues, while the integration of business systems aims for seamless transactions, fostering economic growth.
The MICS booth offers more than information; it promises an immersive experience with Instagrammable 3D optical illusions, symbolizing Cebu City’s journey towards a futuristic urban landscape.
As Cebu City celebrates, it looks ahead with optimism, committed to leveraging technology for the city's prosperity. The MICS booth at SM City North Reclamation stands as a symbol of progress, inviting all to witness Cebu City’s smart and resilient future.
