As we celebrate Democracy Day, let us remember that democracy is built upon the foundations of the rule of law, respect for human rights, inclusion and equality. Democracy is a two-way street marked by continuous dialogue between duty-bearers and right-holders. The dialogue in order to have impact must have real influence on political actions. This is why the freedom of expression and right to information remains to be fundamental as it helps citizens to be participatory members in good governance.

President Rodrigo Duterte signed a law that will lower the cost of electricity in Filipino households.

Signed on 08 August 2019, the Murang Kuryente Act (Republic Act 11361) aims to reduce electricity rates by allocating a portion of the net national government share from the Malampaya Deep Water Gas-to-Power Project, which involves natural gas exploration and extraction from the depths of the sea off Palawan.
