DEPLOYMENT ADVISORY NOTICE As of 1200H, 11 November 2013 – SS Yolanda
8th Marine Brigade Reserve and its Support Units;

82nd Marine Battalion Reserve and 83rd Marine Battalion Reserve

The Headquarters 8th Marine Brigade Reserve is organizing groups to assist ShelterBox Philippines in setting up emergency shelter, warmth and dignity to people affected by Super Storm Yolanda, whose houses were totally wrecked. Each box supplies families with a tent and lifesaving equipment to use while they are displaced or homeless.

ShelterBox Philippines, an affiliate of ShelterBox International who is an international disaster relief charity that provides portable refuge to disaster victims around the world.

The groups are the following;

a) A 30 man group and equipment’s from 83rd Marine Battalion Reserve based in Region 8 to assist in the setting up of temporary shelters in Leyte Samar (LEYSAM) Area,

b) A 30 man group and equipment’s from 82nd Marine Battalion based in Region 7 to assist in the setting up of temporary shelters in Northern Cebu to include the island municipalities and Barangay’s.

Maximum deployment period is 10 to 15 days, and then another group will be organized and mobilized to replace the 1st group.

The group is tasked to assist in the transport, load, unload and stocked in the warehouses of the ShelterBoxes, assist in the distribution and installation.

Unit personnel who have signified to join and participate should expect a worst case scenario of non-availability of power, light, water and communication signals.

Packing for Deployment

Do Bring:

• Toiletries (toothbrush/toothpaste, shaving supplies, shampoo, soap, etc.)
• 5 pcs. Underwear and athletic socks
• Casual, comfortable clothes for leisure time,
• Pair of rubber shoes/slippers/towels
• Extra short pants, green marines/navy T-shirts
• Adequate personal funds
• Family txt information to keep in touch

Do Not Bring:

• Family
• Pets
• Expensive personal items — cameras, MP3 players, radios, laptop, jewelry, etc.
• Nonprescription drugs or drug paraphernalia
• Weapons of any type, including pocket knives
• Obscene or pornographic material
• Alcoholic beverages
• Playing cards/dice/dominoes
• Cigarettes/tobacco products

*1 set lunchbox metal with spoon/fork
*1 set Water can tin

Reminders to all Contingent members who are on Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster (HA/DR) Operations

* Safety and Security of Disaster Responder Personnel and Equipment is our No 1 Priority,
* We should be self-sufficient during the deployment period and don’t bother the affected locality by asking or demanding where to sleep and who will provide for your meals,
* We are not there for photo-ops and claiming that we helped for mileage, just documentation purposes,
* We are on a lifesaving and humanitarian mission and there is a mandatory need for coordination, cooperation and collaboration, NOT COMPETITION with Others,
* Report to any meeting, formation, activity and when called upon . . . . On time.
* Make smart decisions,
* Follow directions and Always follow lawful and legal orders,
* Concentrate on my work and tasks assign and care about the quality of my work,
* Read, write and calculate well,
* Recognize problems and find solutions,
* Finish a job ASAP when I’m supposed to without sacrificing quality,
* Be honest and dependable,
* Take the lead and work hard,
* Communicate well and get along with other people . . . especially my seniors, peers and juniors,
* Wear my uniform properly, shine everything, 3x4 haircut for men/hairnet for women, practice good grooming and sanitation,
* Be cooperative and work as a team player,

* Strictly implement the 11 General Orders, when doing sentry duty.
