PRO7 REMINDS PUBLIC: COMELEC GUN BAN REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL JUNE 11

The Police Regional Office 7 (PRO7) reminds the public that the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) gun ban remains in effect until June 11, 2025, despite the conclusion of the 2025 national and local elections.

The gun ban, which began on January 12, prohibits the unauthorized carrying, transport, and possession of fi****ms and other deadly weapons in public. It also bans the employment of bodyguards or security personnel without proper accreditation from the COMELEC.

PRO7 Regional Director, Police Brigadier General Redrico A Maranan, emphasized that law enforcement operations across Central Visayas are ongoing to ensure continued compliance with the election-related restrictions.

“While the voting has ended, the election period is still in effect. The COMELEC gun ban remains in force until June 11, and our law enforcement efforts will continue to maintain post-election peace and security,” said PBGen Maranan.

“We urge the public to remain vigilant and cooperative. Let us preserve the peace we have achieved during the elections and continue to protect our communities from gun-related violence.”

From January 12 to May 18, 2025, PRO7 recorded 397 gun ban violations, leading to 407 arrests and the confiscation of 424 fi****ms—including 407 small arms, 3 light weapons, 3 replica or improvised fi****ms, 3 explosives, and 1,206 rounds of ammunition.

These results were achieved through intensified COMELEC checkpoints, police responses, patrols, anti-illegal drug operations, and other focused law enforcement activities.

PRO7 encourages the public to report any gun ban violations or suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through official hotlines.

The enforcement of the COMELEC gun ban forms part of the national initiative to ensure peace and order throughout the entire election period, which officially concludes on June 12, 2025.

PRO7 SETS BENCHMARK WITH ZERO ELECTION-RELATED VIOLENCE

The Police Regional Office 7 (PRO7) has set a national benchmark by becoming one of only two police regional offices in the country to record zero violent election-related incidents during the recently concluded National and Local Elections.

This peaceful outcome is credited to PRO7’s comprehensive security approach, which included intensified police visibility, early deployment of personnel, strategic COMELEC checkpoints, and strong coordination with the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Commission on Elections (COMELEC), and local government units.

Persistent law enforcement operations against criminal gangs, drug groups, and private armed groups—including the recent arrests of illegal gun manufacturers and the neutralization of 13 gun-for-hire groups—played a critical role in dismantling the precursors of violent crimes and ensuring a secure election environment across the region.

“This is a result of focused planning, disciplined ex*****on, and the support of our communities,” said PRO7 Regional Director PBGEN Redrico A. Maranan. “Central Visayas has shown that peaceful elections are not only possible—they are achievable when everyone works together.”

Throughout the election period, PRO7 closely monitored identified areas of concern, engaged with local candidates and stakeholders, and maintained round-the-clock surveillance through its regional and provincial command centers. No major security incidents or acts of election-related violence were reported.

As the region transitions to post-election activities, PRO7 reiterates its commitment to upholding peace and order across Central Visayas. The successful conduct of a violence-free election stands as a testament to the organization’s dedication to its mandate and serves as a model for future security operations nationwide.

PRO7 SHUTS DOWN 15 ILLEGAL GUN MANUFACTURING SITES IN DANAO CITY

In full compliance with the directive of the Chief, Philippine National Police (CPNP), to eliminate the sources of loose fi****ms nationwide, Police Regional Office 7 (PRO7) under the leadership of Police Brigadier General Redrico A. Maranan launched a decisive and high-impact operation in Danao City, Cebu—resulting in the shutdown of fifteen (15) illegal gun-making sites.

On May 20, 2025, joint personnel of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 7 (RMFB7) and Danao City Police Station carried out a major combat operation in Barangay Cahumayan, Danao City. This mission, personally initiated by PBGen. Maranan, was part of his strategic countermeasures against criminal gangs, drug syndicates, private armed groups and terrorists, who rely on these illicit gun factories to perpetuate violence not only in Central Visayas, but across the nation.

The operation stemmed from a series of successful intelligence-driven actions from March 21 to May 16, 2025, which unveiled the existence and scope of illegal firearm production in the area.

In total, eight suspects were arrested, and one individual surrendered voluntarily. Seized during the operation were the ten (10) shanties dismantled, 10 lathe machines used for illegal gun manufacturing confiscated, unfinished pistols such as two (2) lower receivers, three (3) upper receivers, three (3) barrel, Grinder, Bench Vice, Welding Machine, Framed Hacksaw, Assorted Steel Files, Drill Bits, Saw Dust, and Assorted Magazines

PBGen. Maranan emphasized the broader implications of this campaign, noting that the existence of such facilities is a direct threat to national security:
“The simultaneous dismantling of fifteen illegal gun-making sites reflects the intensity of our commitment to rid Central Visayas of deadly weapons. These manufacturers fuel violence by supplying fi****ms to criminal gangs, drug syndicates, private armed groups, and even insurgents like the NPAs and terrorists. Their destruction is not just a local triumph—it is a strategic blow to criminal networks operating nationwide.”

Police Regional Office 7 stands firm in its mission to disrupt the supply chain of deadly weapons and urges the public to continue supporting efforts that ensure lasting peace and community safety throughout the region and the country.

PRO7 DELIVERS 32% CRIME DROP IN CENTRAL VISAYAS AMID INTENSIFIED POLICE OPERATIONS

In a compelling testament to the effectiveness of relentless police operations across Central Visayas, the Police Regional Office 7 (PRO7) has recorded a 32.32% reduction in 8 Focus Crimes, slashing numbers from 1,256 incidents between January 1 to May 20, 2024 to just 850 in the same period this year, 2025.

This significant drop of 406 cases is credited to the intensified anti-crime campaign carried out in strict adherence to the directives of the Chief, Philippine National Police (CPNP), PGEN ROMMEL FRANCISCO D. MARBIL.

The 8 Focus Crimes are key index crimes that most impact public safety and peace and order. These include murder, homicide, physical injury, r**e, robbery, theft, carnapping, and motorcycle theft. By targeting these specific crimes through intelligence-driven policing, increased visibility, and focused operations, PRO7 was able to significantly disrupt criminal activity across the region.

All units under PRO7 posted notable declines wherein Cebu Provincial Police Office (PPO) registered the biggest reduction with with 114, and Bohol PPO with a 92-case decrease. Lapu-Lapu City and Mandaue City Police Offices also reported drops of 29 and 15 cases, respectively. These outcomes underscore the impact of coordinated police operations, strategic deployment of personnel, and sustained community engagement.

PBGEN REDRICO A MARANAN, Regional Director of PRO7, lauded the dedication of all personnel involved: “This significant decline in focus crimes is a reflection of our consistent and determined efforts to bring safety to every community. We are executing the Chief PNP’s guidance with urgency and discipline, and we will sustain this momentum. I thank our men and women in uniform for their service and our community partners for standing with us in this campaign.”

As part of its commitment to “Bagong Pilipinas,” PRO7 remains focused on building safer communities through proactive policing and public trust. “Ang gusto ng pulis, ligtas ka,” RD Maranan affirmed, echoing the call for a professional, mission-driven police force that delivers real, measurable results for the constituents of Central Visayas.

BARANGAY OFFICIALS JOIN PRO7’S FIGHT VS LOOSE FI****MS; MORE TOOLS RECOVERED IN DANAO CITY

In an ongoing major combat and clearing operation in Danao City, police forces recovered another set of tools used in crafting loose fi****ms—this time in Brgy. Dungga, Danao City, Cebu—at dawn on May 22, 2025.

Following the call of Police Regional Office 7 (PRO7) Regional Director, Police Brigadier General Redrico A. Maranan, to barangay officials in Danao City regarding the eradication of illegal gun manufacturing, officials of Brgy. Dungga voluntarily surrendered several abandoned tools they had recovered within their area.

The surrendered items include one (1) bench vise, thirty (30) welding rods, two (2) grinders, and one (1) sack of assorted tools.

This latest development follows an earlier recovery in the same barangay, where law enforcers found additional abandoned tools: one (1) drill bit, five (5) bench vises, one (1) welding machine, one (1) grinder, and another sack of assorted tools—all believed to be used in illegal firearm production.

PBGEN Maranan commended the barangay officials for their active cooperation and commitment to public safety. “This is the kind of community partnership we are calling for—when our people recognize the danger posed by loose fi****ms and become part of the solution. We cannot win this fight alone. The help of our barangay leaders is vital in uprooting these threats from the ground,” he said.

To ensure the complete removal of tools used in the illegal manufacture of fi****ms, PBGEN Maranan also announced that PRO7 will be conducting house-to-house visitations in identified areas. He emphasized that this proactive approach is intended to prevent further violence and criminality, protect communities, and ultimately save more lives.

The Police Regional Office 7 remains firmly aligned with the directives of the Philippine National Police leadership. With strengthened police-community collaboration, PRO7 continues to intensify its campaign against loose fi****ms in its mission to build a safer and more secure Central Visayas.
