PGRCUD Team Bags 2nd Place Best Paper in Regional Research Symposium 🏆

The Western Mindanao Agriculture, Aquatic, and Resources Research and Development Consortium (WESMAARRDEC) held its 2nd General Assembly and celebrated its 38th Founding Anniversary on November 21, 2025, at J.H. Cerilles State College, Pagadian City.

During the Regional Symposium for Research and Development Highlights 2025, Mr. Joel Gerone B. Larupay of PGRCUD presented the study “Yield Stability and Assessment in Coconut Varieties for Selection and Breeding of Heat and Drought Tolerant Cultivars.”

Among seven entries, the PGRCUD team bagged 2nd Place in the Research Category for their paper presentation! 🎉👏

LOOK | PCA Conducted the Pioneering Batches of the Training Course on Maximizing Profits: Economic Benefits of Cultivating PCA-Recommended Coconut Varieties

The PCA Zamboanga Research Center successfully conducted the two batches of the Training Course on “Maximizing Profits: Economic Benefits of Cultivating PCA-Recommended Coconut Varieties” from October 14 to 23, 2025.

This newly developed course aimed to equip PCA personnel and farmer stakeholders with essential knowledge on the economic gains and profitability of cultivating PCA-recommended coconut varieties.

Participants from various PCA Regional Offices and farmer representatives from selected regions took part in interactive lectures, workshops, and discussions highlighting varietal performance, cost-benefit analysis, and sustainable coconut farming practices. 🌴

They also engaged in hands-on processing activities for Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) and Coco Sugar, and visited the Biomass and Biofuels Laboratory, where they experienced firsthand how biofuel is produced from coconut—showcasing the wide range of economic opportunities offered by the crop.

The success of these pioneering batches marks another milestone in PCA’s continued commitment to empower coconut growers and strengthen the country’s coconut industry through research-based and profit-oriented capacity-building programs.

To conclude the training, resource persons, facilitators, support units, and staff were also recognized for their invaluable contributions to the successful conduct of this year’s Training Courses on Maximizing Profits and Varietal Identification.

PGRCUD Moves Closer to Completing Varietal Identification Training

PGRCUD successfully held the 3rd Batch of Varietal Identification Training on September 1–5, 2025 at PCA-ZRC!
As the 2nd to the last batch, participants from PCA Regional and Research Centers enhanced their knowledge and skills through lectures and hands-on fieldwork on identifying mother palms and pollen sources—essential for coconut hybridization and hybrid seednut production.
