Bagalnga Integrated School’s BSP Backyard Camping Brings Scouts Together for Skills Training and Community-Building Activities

Bagalnga Integrated School recently held a Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP) Backyard Camping event today, November 9-10, 2024. The event was filled with skill-building activities and opportunities for camaraderie and resilience.

Led by coordinators Mrs. Ingrid Arellano for the High School Department and Mrs. Chona Bejoc for the Elementary Department, the event highlighted the values of leadership, teamwork, and practical learning that form the core of scouting.

The event kicked off with a parade and an opening program, setting an energetic tone for the activities that followed.

Scouts participated in an interactive session led by Mrs. Arellano, covering the History of Scouting, Scout Oath, Law, Motto, and Slogan. Mrs. Christine Ann Cabido and Mr. Larry Wagas introduced the scouting handshake, a symbol of respect and friendship, which one scout described as “an expression of respect and for building friendship.” They also enlightened the scouts with the BSP Vision and Mission and Senior Scouts Code.

A range of hands-on activities provided scouts with essential skills and knowledge. Stations featured lessons on Whistle and Hand Signaling, Wigwag Communication, Basic Marching and Drills, First Aid and Bandaging, Flag Code and Flag Folding. These sessions focused on practical training, discipline, and fostering teamwork, enhancing both individual and group skills facilitated by Mrs. Niña Pardo, Mrs. Melissa Responso, Mrs. Rosary Cristy Pepito and Mrs. Mary Jean Jimenez.

Adding significance to the event is Mr. Alden Pelayo, the District BSP Coordinator and School Head, visited the school to monitor the ongoing camping activities, providing support and encouragement. His presence highlighted the district’s commitment to impactful and meaningful scouting initiatives, leaving a positive impression on all participants.

The evening activities were marked by a memorable campfire ceremony. Scouts participated in solemn ritual rites, deepening their connection to scouting values.

Each troop showcased their creativity and talents, leading up to the Search for Talentadong Scouts 2024.

Among the contenders, Carl Paradiang stood out in the Junior BSP Scouts category, while John Dave Monte claimed victory for the Senior Scouts. Their impressive performances earned enthusiastic applause and recognition.

The evening concluded with a heartwarming community song and a Pow Wow session led by scouting leaders, emphasizing reflection, unity, and camaraderie.

The two-day event left a lasting impact, nurturing the scouts’ skills, friendships, and leadership potential.

𝙇𝙤𝙤𝙠 | Bagalnga Integrated School, in collaboration with the Office of the Local Youth Development, held a comprehensive health and wellness symposium on October 22 at the Senior High School Building. The event, aimed at raising awareness on critical issues affecting today’s youth, focused on HIV, teenage pregnancy, mental health, and drug abuse.

The symposium commenced at 10 a.m. with a drug awareness session led by Police Corporal Maria Fatima Tagalog, stationed in Compostela, Cebu. Corporal Tagalog delivered a compelling presentation on the harmful effects of drug use, emphasizing the dangers of substance abuse and the long-term consequences it can have on individuals and society.

Following the drug awareness discussion, nursing students from Collegio San Antonio de Padua took the stage to address several pressing health concerns. They provided in-depth discussions on HIV, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and teenage pregnancy, highlighting preventive measures and the importance of sexual health education. The nursing students also led a separate session on mental health, offering students valuable insights into managing stress, anxiety, and depression, all of which are common challenges among today’s youth.

Mr. Cuevas, one of the key speakers, underscored the importance of mental well-being and expressed concern about the rising cases of teenage pregnancy. “Senior High, aim high, soar high,” he encouraged the students, urging them to make positive choices in their lives. His talk focused on equipping students with the knowledge and resources they need to avoid risky behaviors, seek testing when necessary, and access support services.

The event was met with enthusiastic participation from senior high school students, who engaged actively in the discussions and asked insightful questions. The symposium provided a platform for meaningful dialogue, addressing the alarming trends among teenagers and offering practical solutions to these challenges.

Through this initiative, Bagalnga Integrated School demonstrated its commitment to fostering an environment where students are empowered to make informed decisions about their health and well-being. By addressing critical issues that affect young people, the school, in partnership with local experts, aims to guide students toward a healthier, more responsible future.

Bagalnga Integrated School Celebrates the Closing of Intramurals 2024 with Exciting Highlights

Look | The weeklong Intramurals 2024 at Bagalnga Integrated School concluded on October 18, following days of thrilling competitions and artistic performances. Organized by the school’s Sports and Cultural Coordinators—Jan Marinie Lastemosa, Rosary Cristy Pepito, Larry Wagas, and Dexon Lopez—under the leadership of Principal Brendo U. Damayo, the event was a celebration of both sportsmanship and creativity, bringing together students from all levels.

A major highlight of the closing ceremony was the Mr. and Ms. Intramurals competition. In the Elementary category, Bruce Kian Subingsubing and Charlene Rosal, Grade 6 students, were crowned as Mr. and Ms. Intramurals 2024, while Rhealieza Jane Sapilan and Baby J Seballo, both are Grade 10 students, took the titles for the Secondary category. The participants impressed the audience with their charm, poise, and intelligence, competing in segments that included production number, school uniform wear, sports attire, and picture analysis round. Both elementary and secondary representatives embodied the spirit of the Intramurals with their sportsmanship and grace.

The Balak Contest showcased the literary talents of Bagalnga students through traditional local poetry. This year, Melly Jane Belotendos, a grade 11 student, stood out among the competitors and was declared the winner. Her heartfelt performance captured the audience’s attention, as she delivered her original composition with emotion and eloquence. The contest emphasized both the students’ creativity and their pride in local culture, making it one of the standout events of the Intramurals.

In addition to the cultural events, the sports competitions were fiercely contested throughout the week. Students participated in various events, including basketball, volleyball, badminton, and chess. At the closing ceremony, the Red Dragons were proclaimed the overall champion of the Intramurals, having dominated in several sports categories. The team’s hard work, discipline, and teamwork earned them the top spot, and their victory was met with cheers and applause from their fellow students and teachers. Individual athletes and teams were also recognized with medals and trophies for their achievements in the different sports.

The Intramurals 2024 was a huge success, giving students the opportunity to develop their athletic, creative, and leadership skills. The event fostered a strong sense of camaraderie among students from both the elementary and secondary levels. Principal Brendo U. Damayo and the dedicated team of coordinators worked tirelessly to ensure the event ran smoothly, and the excitement and energy from the week’s activities left a lasting impression on everyone involved.

As students return to their regular academic routines, the values learned from the Intramurals—teamwork, perseverance, and sportsmanship—will continue to inspire them. The school community is already looking forward to next year’s Intramurals, eager to build on the success and memories of this year’s event.
