đź’ś WE for Gender Equality and an Inclusive Society đź’ś

In the pre-colonial Philippines, Babaylans stood as important figures for wisdom and leadership. They served as advisers to the Datu in matters of spirituality, healing, and the natural world. They embodied both strength and gentleness, courage and compassion.

Today, Filipinas carry that same spirit. Across fields like science, medicine, leadership, and governance, women continue to break barriers and lead, standing EQUAL WITH MEN in shaping our nation’s future.

This Women’s Month, we at BCCAD celebrate a kind of leadership rooted in bravery, wisdom, empathy, and kindness, the very essence of a Filipina.

BABAE KA, hindi “babae lang.”
Lead with purpose. Lead with heart.
Lead like a Babaylan. đź’ś

EYES HERE!!!

On February 28, 2026, under the direction of City Administrator Atty. Francis Mark H. Layog, the Barangay and Cultural Communities Affairs Division (BCCAD) spearheaded a citywide clean-up drive as a mitigating measure to the case of rising vandalism in the city. The activity was carried out in partnership with barangay officials including the Punong Barangay, Barangay Kagawads, and the Sangguniang Kabataan with its functionaries.

The simultaneous cleanup covered both public and private establishments with previously identified vandalism. The office strongly encouraged youth participation through the Sangguniang Kabataan, emphasizing their vital role in this cause.

The activity was streamed via the official pages of the respective barangays, and a total of twenty seven (27) barangays has actively participated during the activity.

Through this activity, the office seeks to emphasize the value of cleanliness in public places and establishments, and to strongly deter any acts of vandalism.

Tomorrow marks the first year anniversary of the arrest of former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte before the ICC, a dark moment for the Philippines, the Filipinos, especially for the Davaoeños who witnessed how he poured his heart and soul to true public service and leadership. In this light, a Holy Mass for the safe return of our beloved former President, Tatay Digong, will be held on March 11, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm at San Pedro Cathedral, Davao City.

ALL ARE INVITED AND WELCOME TO ATTEND the said mass. This gathering aims to bring together Davaoeños and Filipinos in praying for the continued strength, protection and safe return of former President Duterte to his beloved home, here in Davao City.

Let us show the world the true meaning of courage, loyalty, and love for our nation and affirm with pride that "I am not a Filipino for nothing".

Please wear anything green during the mass.

ATTENTION: RETIREMENT AHEAD!

Retirements are usually bittersweet, especially if the one retiring is well loved by all and such is the case, with BCCAD’s very own, Merla Nuevo, or as we fondly call her, Ate Merla. Sweet, because now she will be spending her time and effort with her family, especially her grandkids. Bitter, because we also wished that we can extend the time that we can still work with her, given that she is trustworthy and ever reliable when it comes to her work.

Thank you, Ate Merla, for 27 years of dedication and hard work for the City Government of Davao. Never ending gratitude for all the contributions, you have made which also had a great impact to the office. Never forget that you have touched and also inspired many employees, especially the younger generations. Thank you for being such a valuable part of the team. IT’S BEEN AN HONOR WORKING WITH YOU!

Ate Merla, you’ve worked so hard for this, now it’s time to enjoy life to the fullest! See you around and remember that you can always call us or get back to work if you get bored! :D

Cheers to the next chapter!
