DSDSNHS showcases learners’ creativity and excellence in celebration of National Children’s Month
Dr. Santiago Dakudao Sr. National High School (DSDSNHS) placed learners’ creativity at the center of its National Children’s Month celebration with a vibrant school-wide exhibit showcasing student-made outputs across various learning areas on December 5, 2025.
School grounds and corridors transformed into colorful, gallery-like spaces filled with visual artworks, innovative projects, handmade crafts, infographics, reflective essays, performance videos, and interactive displays. Each proudly created by learners from different grade levels. Every piece reflected their academic achievement, imagination, originality, and personal expression.
From creative works in Science, Araling Panlipunan, English, Mathematics, Filipino, Values Education, and TLE, to skill-based products from Senior High School learners, the displays highlighted how students used creativity to deepen their understanding of classroom concepts and communicate ideas in meaningful, engaging ways. MAPEH students enriched the celebration further with expressive artworks and performances that captured the energy, diversity, and artistry of today’s youth.
School Head Josephine A. Basillo, Principal III, commended both teachers and learners for their dedication and talent.
“Our learners have shown that creativity is not just a skill. It is a voice. Through these outputs, they express their ideas, dreams, and experiences. We are proud to provide a space where their creativity can flourish,” she said.
Teachers likewise expressed pride and joy, emphasizing that the showcase reflected each learner’s individuality and growing confidence in exploring new and creative approaches to learning.
Students, too, shared their excitement and appreciation for the event. Grade 8 learner, whose artwork was featured in the exhibit, said, “I felt proud seeing my work displayed. It made me realize that creativity isn’t just about being good at drawing. It’s about showing who you are. This event encouraged us to try new ideas without fear.”
The celebration served as a powerful reminder that children learn best when they are given opportunities to create, imagine, and innovate. Through this meaningful school-wide showcase, DSDSNHS reaffirmed its commitment to nurturing creativity and empowering students to shine in their own unique ways. Truly embodying the school’s spirit as a place “where the hearts of greatness thrive.”

With the approval and support of Schools Division Superintendent Reynante A. Solitario, CESO V and Cluster 13 Head Liberty R. Arellano, EdD, this activity gathered all teachers for a unified assessment of instructional practices, progress indicators, and mid-year performance targets.
The morning session opened with a comprehensive report on the school’s literacy initiative "Project CARE" delivered by English Reading Coordinator Mary Cris L. Ramos. She shared updated data on learners’ reading levels and the progress observed across grade levels. Mrs. Ramos emphasized, “Our goal is to ensure that every learner gains the reading proficiency they need. The data helps us identify where our students are and what specific interventions will help them succeed.”
School Statistician Rogelio R. Binag followed with the presentation of the General Scholastic Average (GSA) results and updates on the Learner Information System (LIS). Highlighting the importance of evidence-based decision-making, he noted, “Data guides us toward smarter instructional decisions. When we understand our numbers, we understand our learners better.”
Financial updates were provided by Ramonitu B. Llanos, who assured teachers that transparency in financial matters helps us build trust and effectively allocate resources where they are needed.
Meanwhile, Hazel L. Taladua reported on the school’s research initiatives, emphasizing the strengthening research culture among teachers. She shared "Research empowers us to innovate and to anchor our strategies on evidence. It’s encouraging to see more faculty members engaging in scholarly work."

Alvar discussed DepEd Memorandum No. 89, s. 2025, which operationalizes the multi-year guidelines for the Performance Management and Evaluation System (PMES) aligned with the PPST. Mrs. Basillo explained, “PMES is not just about rating teachers. It’s about supporting professional growth. The system ensures that performance is measured fairly and that development plans truly respond to teachers’ needs.”
Department heads of all learning areas thereafter led the Review and Commitment of Targets and Accomplishments, along with the Calibration of Teachers’ Mid-Year Performance.
The activity was facilitated by Mrs. Gleecyl M. Campos and concluded with a renewed collective commitment from the faculty to elevate teaching performance, strengthen instructional strategies, and enhance student learning outcomes for the remainder of the school year.

A Heart That Never Stops Teaching
Dr. Santiago Dakudao Sr. National High School continues to strengthen its literacy efforts through the exchange book program designed to support independent readers.
In celebration of Reading Month, the school proudly highlights a school head who champions reading not only for struggling readers but for independent readers, proving that every child, regardless of their level, deserves the chance to deepen their love for books.
Inspired by ASDS Rebecca Casas Sagot, CESO VI, Josephine A. Basillo, Principal III, spearheaded this initiative which aims to develop critical thinking, broaden vocabulary, and foster a deeper appreciation for reading among learners.
Within the campus, apart from being an ARAL tutor, Ma’am Joy leads the independent readers with exchange books program, which allows students to borrow and exchange books freely.
This simple system has helped establish a vibrant reading culture, where students eagerly discuss stories and explore new titles.
“Reading is a gateway,” she says. “Once learners develop a love for reading, improvement in other subjects follows naturally.”
Her example encourages teachers to integrate reading moments into their lessons and to view books as essential tools for enhancing imagination and comprehension.
After school hours, she spends time reading with her ten-year-old nephews guiding them patiently through stories and celebrating their progress.
“Seeing them improve reminds me that reading truly changes lives,” she shares.
Ma’am Joy also emphasizes that literacy extends beyond the classroom.
She continues to encourage families to set aside time for shared reading, noting that children are more likely to value books when they see adults doing the same.
Despite the demands of school leadership, she consistently makes time to nurture readers, whether in the classroom, in meetings, or at home. Her work serves as a reminder that education thrives when guided by dedication, purpose, and genuine care.
Through her initiative, books become bridges that open minds, connect communities, and spark new possibilities for every learner she inspires.
