April 16, 2026 | 3rd year Microbiology students from the University of Southern Mindanao Kabacan visited the Lactic Acid Fermentation and Purification Laboratory at UP Mindanao for an industrial tour.

A total of 38 students, accompanied by 4 faculty members, spent the afternoon exploring the practical applications of Industrial Microbiology and Biotechnology. The visit was arranged as part of their MicroB 11 course, aiming to bridge classroom concepts with real-world laboratory practices.

The students were able to visit the laboratory facilities where key equipment and processes were showcased, along with a short demonstration on how the equipment are used in actual operations. The team also introduced the laboratoryโ€™s available services, giving students an overview of how they can access and benefit from theseโ€”from lab testing to other technical support services. This hands-on exposure, together with a short lecture on microbial processes in industry, enriched their learning experience and connected their microbiology concepts to real-world applications.

For the third time, our office continues host USM Kabacan by providing meaningful industry exposure and showcasing our laboratory capabilities and services. We remain open to future collaborations and learning engagements at the UP Mindanao Lactic Acid Fermentation and Purification Lab.

April 7, 2026 | From insightful discussions (Part I) to an engaging hands-on Prior Art Search session (Part II), Part II truly brought learning into actionโ€”equipping participants with practical tools and techniques in assessing the novelty of research and innovations.

This yearโ€™s workshop brought together participants both face-to-face and around 230 online attendees, including our friends from Samal Island City College, Southern Philippines Agri-Business and Marine and Aquatic School of Technology (SPAMAST), and the Philippine Coconut Authority โ€“ Albay Research Centerโ€”making the learning experience even more dynamic and collaborative.

A big thank you to our facilitator, Ms. Dyle S. Legaspi, ITSO Manager of the University of Mindanao, Davao City, for generously sharing her expertise and guiding everyone through the Prior Art Search session during Part II of the MUGNA Workshop 2026.

We also extend our sincere appreciation to the UPMin Office of Research, especially to Dr. Marilou O. Montiflor and her team, for the continued partnership in making this event possible. Special thanks as well to the RAISE 2 Project, led by Ms. Lynda A. Buenaobra and her team, for their support and collaboration throughout the workshop.

And of course, thank you to all our participantsโ€”both onsite and onlineโ€”for your active participation and enthusiasm in levelling up your IP game with us!

Until the next Mugna Workshopโ€”letโ€™s keep innovating! ๐Ÿš€
