: DOST joins exhibits in Halal Festival at the House of Representatives
The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) โincluding DOST CALABARZON, DOST- National Capital Region, DOST - PTRI, and DOST ITDIโparticipated in the Halal Festival, held as part of the World Hijab Day 2026 celebration with the theme "Celebrating Identity, Empowering Women, and Advancing Inclusive Growth," from February 2 to 4, 2026, at the South Wing Lobby, House of Representatives of the Philippines.
As part of the exhibit, DOST-CALABARZON showcased the services of the DOST Halal Verification Laboratory (HVL), which provides testing services and ensures that products comply with Halal requirements. Specifically, porcine analysis to detect pork DNA in food and feed products and alcohol analysisโsuch as ethanol, methanol, and isopropanol in food and personal care products. Aside from testing, the HVL also offers free halal awareness training.
Moreover, the organization showcased Halal-certified products supported under the Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP), namely:
- Miraโs Food and Agriventures, Inc.
- Ginga Agrifood Manufacturing Enterprise
- Prime Innov8 Manufacturing Co.
- Blue Macay Food Manufacturing Corporation
- Green Life Coco Products
- Puchi Shoestring Bananas
- Tropical Palm Herb Manufacturing
- Pasciolco Agri Ventures
Ms. Dang Baylon, Sales Manager of Pasciolco Agri Ventures, shared that they recorded higher sales during the three-day exhibit and are now able to export their products, highlighting the benefits of being Halal-certified. She further stated, โMalaking advantage talaga ang pagiging Halal-certified dahil mas nakikilala ang iyong negosyo.โ Pasciolco Agri Ventures, along with C&H Cosmetic Industry, are SETUP-assisted firms that were invited as exhibitors.

LOOK: The Department of Science and Technology -Davao Region welcomed a courtesy visit from a delegation of Malaysian and Chinese guests facilitated by the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos โ Davao Regional Office.
The delegation, representing International Centre for Education in Islamic Finance (INCEIF) University and Halal Development Corporation Berhad, met with Regional Director Dr. Anthony Sales to explore potential areas of collaboration in pharmaceuticals, halal standards, and research and development.
The engagement provided an opportunity to exchange insights on ongoing programs, facilities, and initiatives relevant to strengthening halal and pharmaceutical industry development, and to foster future cross-border cooperation in science, technology, and innovation.

The DOST-NCR, TESDA NCR and FEU Institute of Technology ink Memorandum of Agreement for the VirtuHalal: An Interactive Simulation for Halal Slaughtering, a VR-based module for Halal slaughtering.
Developers from FEU Institute of Technology College of Computer Studies and Multimedia Arts took on the challenge of developing a VR-based module to slaughter large ruminants in line with Halal principles. This module will be turned over to the TESDA Regional Training CenterโNCR for use in demonstration and instruction for Filipinos seeking to enhance their knowledge and skills in Halal slaughtering.
This further underpins how faith, culture, science and technology can merge to introduce more practical approaches by innovating practices.
