The 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐄𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐄𝐧𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐞 𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐩 – 𝐒𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐨 (𝐌𝐄𝐏𝐄𝐑𝐆-𝐒𝐄𝐌) under the leadership of 𝐋𝐓𝐉𝐆 𝐋𝐄𝐎 𝐌. 𝐌𝐀𝐍𝐙𝐀𝐍𝐎 𝐏𝐂𝐆, commander, MEPERG-SEM in coordination with Coast Guard Station (CGS) Davao Occidental and Coast Guard Sub-Station (CGSS) Malita facilitated a three (3) day Marine Pollution 𝐎𝐢𝐥 𝐒𝐩𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐞 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐄𝐱𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐢𝐬𝐞 to the participants from 𝐌𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐚 𝐏𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫, 𝐈𝐧𝐜. supervised by 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐫
𝐉𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐬 𝐈𝐯𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐌. 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐚, plant manager, Malita Power, Inc held at 𝐒𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨 𝐈𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐧, 𝐁𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐲 𝐂𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐦𝐚𝐧, 𝐌𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐚, 𝐃𝐚𝐯𝐚𝐨 𝐎𝐜𝐜𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 last 𝐒𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝟏𝟕 𝐭𝐨 𝟏𝟗, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓.

Oil Spill Response Training equips the participants with knowledge and skills to ensure preparedness, safety, and environmental protection in responding quickly and effectively to oil spill incidents, minimizing damage to marine ecosystems, coastal communities, and marine-based industries. Through training, responders learn proper containment, recovery, and cleanup techniques, as well as coordination procedures with concerned agencies. This not only helps protect biodiversity and public health but also reduces economic losses and strengthens overall disaster resilience.

The initiative forms part of the Philippine Coast Guard Task Force Ingat Yamang Dagat action plan, emphasizing collective responsibility in protecting marine biodiversity and ensuring sustainable use of our ocean resources. .

𝐋 𝐀 𝐍 𝐓 𝐀 𝐖 𝐀: The 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐄𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐄𝐧𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐞 𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐩 𝐒𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐨 (𝐌𝐄𝐏𝐄𝐑𝐆 𝐒𝐄𝐌) together with 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐄𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐄𝐧𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐞 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐭 (𝐌𝐄𝐏𝐄𝐑𝐔) 𝐈𝐆𝐀𝐂𝐎𝐒 conducted a one-day lecture to the Grade 12 students of 𝐕𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐚 𝐑𝐢𝐜𝐚 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥 as part of their school activity and work immersion program.

The said lecture was conducted by 𝐄𝐍𝐒 𝐁𝐄𝐑𝐍𝐀𝐑𝐃𝐄𝐓𝐇 𝐉𝐎𝐘 𝐒 𝐁𝐔𝐆𝐀𝐑𝐈𝐍 𝐏𝐂𝐆, Deputy Commander, MEPERG-SEM which included discussion on key topics such as “𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐫 𝐖𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭”. In addition, the lecture was held at Coast Guard Station Babak District, IGACOS, Davao Del Norte on January 20, 2025.

Educational initiatives like this emphasize the importance of waste management in fostering environmental awareness, empowering individuals, and promoting sustainable practices that benefit communities and the environment alike.

Moreover, said activity was led by 𝐄𝐍𝐒 𝐄𝐃𝐖𝐀𝐑𝐃 𝐘𝐄𝐎 𝐉𝐑 𝐏𝐂𝐆, Commander, MSIG-SEM, the team successfully collected 10 sacks of assorted trash, with a total weight of approximately 𝟗𝟕 𝐤𝐢𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐬, from the vicinity waters of Pearl Farm Beach Resort, Barangay Adecor, Kaputian District IGACOS, Davao Del Norte, on January 16, 2025.

Marine debris, particularly plastics, poses serious threats to marine ecosystems, causing issues such as entanglement, ingestion, and habitat destruction. Activities like “Scubasurero” play a crucial role in reducing these hazards and ensuring the health and sustainability of marine resources for future generations.
