LOOK | DAVAO REGION POSTS 5.1% GROWTH IN 2025, REMAINS MINDANAO’S LARGEST ECONOMY

Davao Region’s economy grew by 5.1% in 2025, and remained as one of the Philippines’ top-performing regional economies, despite facing natural disasters and governance-related challenges. The report was presented by the Philippine Statistics Authority XI during the release of the 2025 Regional Accounts in Davao Region on April 23, 2026.

The region’s gross regional domestic product (GRDP) reached ₱1.137 trillion, maintaining its status as the largest economy in Mindanao and the fifth largest nationwide. The growth rate, while slightly lower than the 6.3 percent recorded in 2024, still exceeded the national average of 4.4 percent and placed Davao Region among the fastest-growing regions in the country.

LOOK | DEPDEV XI MEETS WITH PROJECT TEAM FOR PANTUKAN PORT FEASIBILITY STUDY AND MASTER PLAN TO STRENGTHEN ROLE IN REGIONAL LOGISTICS AND DAVAO GULF DEVELOPMENT

The Department of Economy, Planning and Development – Regional Office XI (DEPDev XI) headed by Regional Director Priscilla R. Sonido welcomed the Project Team for the Conduct of Feasibility Studies and Formulation of Master Plan of Selected Ports, including the Port of Pantukan in Davao de Oro, for a courtesy visit and coordination meeting to discuss the port’s strategic role in advancing regional development.

The meeting focused on aligning the Feasibility Study and Master Plan for the Port of Pantukan with the priorities and strategic directions of the Davao Regional Development Plan (DRDP), Regional Development Investment Program (RDIP), the Davao Gulf Area Development Plan (DGADP), and the Comprehensive and Sustainable Urban Development Plan Master Plan for Metro Davao, ensuring coherence with the region’s long-term vision on achieving its socioeconomic transformation through an integrated transport and international logistics network

The Davao Regional Development Council (RDC XI) expanded Executive Committee (ExeCom) convened on March 31, 2026, at the RDC XI Center, Department of Economy, Planning and Development (DEPDev) Regional Office in Davao City. The Committee discussed the effects of the ongoing tensions in the Middle East creating uncertainties in the global and national economy as well as affecting the local situation in Davao.

The Committee reviewed comprehensive reports from various regional agencies regarding the conflict's ripple effects on fuel prices, inflation, and labor mobility, among others. Key measures were also recommended by the ExeCom during the meeting.

On fuel and energy security, the Committee passed a resolution recommending for the establishment of price cap for fuel and issuance of directives against fuel hoarding by the Office of the President and local government units (LGUs), respectively. The Committee also requested the Department of Energy (DOE) to require gasoline stations to provide prior notice of closure or suspension of operations to ensure stable fuel supply.

On transportation, the Committee requested the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board XI to implement a ‘libreng sakay’ or free ride program at least once a week to alleviate the burden on commuters.

On stable rice supply, request was made to the Department of Agriculture XI to ensure a stable rice supply and provide logistics support for importing goods. Local rice producers are also enjoined, through the LGUs, to prioritize rice supply within Davao.

On labor and tourism, the Committee recommended measures to provide transportation and communication assistance to stranded or repatriated overseas Filipino workers. To support the tourism sector, the Committee urged the Department of Tourism to expand list of visa-exempt countries to bolster foreign arrivals.

On regional security and cooperation, the ExeCom requested the Armed Forces of the Philippines and Philippine Coast Guard to tighten security at all entry and exit points, including coastal areas across Davao.

The meeting was presided over by RDC XI Chairperson and Davao del Norte Governor Edwin I. Jubahib and attended by key regional leaders and stakeholders, including RDC XI Co-Chairperson Arturo M. Milan, RDC XI Vice-Chairperson Priscilla R. Sonido who is also Regional Director (RD) of the Department of Economy, Planning and Development Regional Office in Davao, RDC XI acting Secretary and OIC-Assistant RD Mario M. Realista, and RDC XI sectoral committee chairpersons and co-chairpersons.

Also present were Davao Oriental Governor Nelson L. Dayanghirang and regional heads and representatives from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, Bureau of Customs-Davao, Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc., Department of Migrant Workers XI, Department of Energy-Mindanao Field Office, Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board XI, National Intelligence Coordinating Agency XI, Philippine Statistics Authority XI, and Philippine Ports Authority-Port Management Office in Davao.

The Department of Economy, Planning, and Development (DEPDev) commences the observance of Economy, Planning, and Development Week from April 10 to 16 pursuant to Proclamation No. 1205 series of 2026. This underscores the importance of socioeconomic planning in advancing inclusive and sustainable national development.

This comes after the enactment of Republic Act No. 12145 or the "Economy, Planning, and Development Act", which reorganized the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) into DEPDev by strengthening its mandate, institutional independence, and capacity as the primary policy, planning, coordinating, and monitoring arm of the Executive Branch.

Our theme for this year is “𝙆𝙚𝙚𝙥𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝘾𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙨𝙚, 𝙍𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙮𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙁𝙪𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚, 𝘼𝙘𝙝𝙞𝙚𝙫𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙋𝘿𝙋 𝙏𝙖𝙧𝙜𝙚𝙩𝙨,”. DEPDev reaffirms its commitment to strengthening evidence-based policymaking and whole-of-government coordination to support the effective implementation of the Philippine Development Plan, the government's overall blueprint in development planning.

In January, DEPDev released the the Executive Report 2026, which provides a consolidated strategies to revitalize the implementation the Philippine Development Plan (PDP) 2023–2028 in response to recent issues.

𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐊: The Department of Economy, Planning, and Development recognized the critical role of pursuing innovation and strengthening public-private partnerships to advance sustainable development across the country during the 17th Regional Development Council–Private Sector Representatives (RDC-PSR) National Convention held in Davao City on March 11, 2026,

DEPDev Secretary Arsenio M. Balisacan highlighted the critical role of private sector representation in the Regional Development Councils in ensuring that development strategies remain responsive to the needs of industries, enterprises, and communities across the regions. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening collaboration between government institutions and private sector partners to advance sustainable regional development.

Moreover, the country's chief economist highlighted three priorities that should guide collective efforts in advancing regional development. These are placing innovation at the center of development, anchoring innovation in the regions where opportunities and challenges are most directly experienced, and strengthening public-private partnerships to accelerate regional growth.

The 17th RDC-PSR provided a platform for collaboration, allowing national agencies, local governments, and private sector leaders to align priorities and coordinate investments across regions.
