โEducation is the key to unlock the golden door of freedomโ - George Washington Carver
Letโs lift the voices of these children as we witness their stories in facing hurdles in their lives, hindering their innocence with work. Children like Anep, who work tirelessly to support their families, remind us of the critical need to address child labor. These young lives deserve the opportunity to learn, grow, and reach their full potential. Every child should have the chance to be a child, play, and attend school without the burden of adult responsibilities.
BalaKID aims to end child labor by deepening the understanding of its impact, building support networks for affected children. Together, letโs join hands in supporting this advocacy to end child labor and raise awareness!!!

Letโs lift these children ๐ถ๐ป from the dark and shine โจ their stories with light ๐ก . BalaKid aims to give a voice to the children who cannot speak up. ๐ฃ๏ธ
Witnessing children having to carry heavy loads on their backs just to sustain their familyโs ๐งโ๐งโ๐งโ๐งneeds is truly not a sight to see. Poverty in the Philippines forces some children to take on jobs and responsibilities much like adults; These children feel obligated to help provide for their families so they can keep afloat.
This leaves these young individuals little to no time to play or learn ๐ as they should as children. It keeps them from cultivating themselves as they continue to focus on putting food on the table instead of their studies ๐and keeping their innocence. These young individuals who are just in the stage of growing and developing should not be showered with these responsibilities; instead, they should have the opportunity to explore and enjoy themselves while learning at the same time.

In the bustling streets of Davao City is Sero, a 16-year-old working student, struggling to make ends meet as he strives to earn money for the needs of his family. He works as a trash collector and sidelines as a trysikad driver and a laborer in any construction sites gaining wages ranging from โฑ400 - โฑ450. Despite the heavy work, Sero still manages to maintain his education with the Alternative Learning System (ALS) program.
Seroโs childhood was not one with playgrounds and laughter, instead, trapped by a forceful grip of child labor, overshadowing his dreams in life with responsibilities he shouldnโt have had in the first place. However, even when facing a difficult situation, motivation is still evident in Seroโs eyes as he aspires to achieve one of his dreams, becoming a firefighter.
โKung kabalo daw ko mangwarta, di daw ko manglisodโ
Highlighting one of Seroโs statements during the interview, this way of thinking of parents should be avoided. This should be a call for action for everyone that forcing a child to work should not be normalized as it hinders the education and also the dreams of a child.
It's time to take a stand and put an end to child labor, ensuring every child's opportunity to have a happy and healthy childhood!
