The Executive Committee of the Island Garden City of Samal (IGaCoS) Coastal Waters Water Quality Management Area (WQMA) convened at the City Mayor’s Conference Room, City Hall Building, Barangay Peñaplata, Samal District, IGaCoS, to discuss key management priorities, advance the development of its 10-year Action Plan, and prepare for the implementation of activities in Calendar Year (CY) 2027.

The meeting was chaired by EnP. Alnulfo M. Alvarez, Regional Director of the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) XI, and attended by representatives of the City Mayor’s Office (CMO), the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO), and Pearl Farm Beach Resort (PFBR).

The committee reviewed matters arising from previous meetings, particularly the First Semester 2026 WQMA Governing Board Meeting and the WQMA Action Plan Meeting. Discussions focused on identifying and consolidating key issues and concerns for inclusion in the proposed 10-year Action Plan, which will be presented to the WQMA Governing Board for consideration and endorsement.

Under new business, the committee elected the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) as the new Vice-Chairperson of the Executive Committee. This leadership development is expected to strengthen coordination between the WQMA’s initiatives and the city’s environmental management and natural resources programs.

The committee also discussed the CY 2027 Calendar of Activities and the CY 2027 Work and Financial Plan (WFP) to establish implementation priorities and ensure that proposed activities are supported by appropriate resources.

These discussions underscore the committee’s commitment to strengthening collaborative governance, advancing strategic water quality management, and aligning planned initiatives with the environmental management objectives of the IGaCoS Coastal Waters WQMA. The outputs of the meeting will help guide the implementation of priority programs and activities in 2027 toward the protection and improvement of coastal water quality in the Island Garden City of Samal.

Chaired by EnP. Alnulfo M. Alvarez, Chairperson of the Davao City Airshed Governing Board (DCAGB), the DCAGB Executive Committee convened its Second Semester 2026 Meeting on October 14, 2026, at the EMB XI Conference Room in Davao City.

The meeting focused on key matters concerning airshed management, including the status of sectoral membership and the updated 2026–2030 Davao City Airshed Action Plan. Both matters were endorsed for further deliberation during the upcoming DCAGB Governing Board Meeting. The Committee also discussed public awareness and information initiatives for the celebration of Clean Air Month in November 2026, emphasizing collaboration among DCAGB members and partner stakeholders to promote public participation and strengthen awareness of air quality protection.

The Committee likewise reviewed updates on transboundary haze originating from Kalimantan and South Papua, Indonesia, and its potential effects on Davao City. The discussion considered available ambient air quality monitoring data, satellite imagery, and regional haze information to support the assessment of air quality conditions and associated risks. In addition, the members finalized the proposed agenda for the DCAGB Governing Board Meeting scheduled for November 2026.

The meeting forms part of the continuing operationalization of the Davao City Airshed Governing Board, reinforcing inter-agency coordination, stakeholder engagement, and proactive decision-making in addressing emerging air quality concerns and strengthening air quality management within the airshed.

𝐂𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐧 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 recorded 𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐘 𝐔𝐍𝐇𝐄𝐀𝐋𝐓𝐇𝐘 air quality for PM2.5 with an AQI value of 176. Meanwhile, 𝐌𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐚 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 reached 𝐀𝐂𝐔𝐓𝐄𝐋𝐘 𝐔𝐍𝐇𝐄𝐀𝐋𝐓𝐇𝐘 air quality for PM2.5 with an AQI value of 203.14.
