In observance of Womenโ€™s Month, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Davao Region reinforced its Gender and Development (GAD) initiatives through the simultaneous conduct of a Free Eye Check-up in partnership with AD Escala Optical Clinic, alongside an onsite Human Papillomavirus Deoxyribonucleic Acid (HPV-DNA) Self-Test in collaboration with the Davao City Health Office on March 26, 2026, at the DOST Davao Region Conference Room. The activities aimed to provide accessible, science-based health services to personnel, particularly women, including comprehensive eye assessments and a modern, less invasive screening method for cervical cancer prevention targeting women aged 30 to 49.
These initiatives highlight DOST Davao Regionโ€™s strong commitment to advancing gender-responsive and inclusive health programs under its GAD framework. By promoting early detection through HPV-DNA self-testing and ensuring access to essential eye care services, the agency continues to champion the well-being, empowerment, and productivity of its workforceโ€”demonstrating its dedication to making science-driven solutions more accessible and impactful for all.

Anchored on the advocacy of the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW), this week (every 4th Week of March) reminds us that every girl under 18 deserves protection from abuse, equal opportunities, and empowerment to thrive. It is a vital part of the National Womenโ€™s Month Celebration, advancing our collective responsibility to uphold the rights of girls and ensure they grow in safe, nurturing, and inclusive communities.

The PCW emphasizes that advancing gender equality begins with safeguarding the girl child by dismantling harmful stereotypes, promoting education, and ensuring access to health, safety, and leadership opportunities.

Let us stand together to:

๐ŸŒŸProtect girls from all forms of violence and exploitation;
๐ŸŒŸGuarantee fair treatment and equal chances in school, at home, and in society; and
๐ŸŒŸEmpower them to dream, lead, and inspire change.

The Department of Science and Technology โ€“ Davao Region proudly joins the nation in celebrating the Protection and Gender-Fair Treatment of Girl Child Week. We stand for a future where young girls are protected from harm, have access to education, science, and innovation, and where their voices matter in building stronger communities.
Let us work together to protect her rights, support her dreams, and empower her future. ๐Ÿ‘งโœจ
