The Coast Guard District Southeastern Mindanao (CGDSEM), through Coast Guard Sub-Station Mavรฉas (CGSS Mavรฉas), provided assistance in the successful repatriation of the passenger of distressed MBCA Quessel-J who was rescued after drifting at sea and being found in the waters of Kamboling and Kawio Islands, Indonesia.
Working in close coordination with the Local Government Unit of Sarangani, the Inter-Agency Search and Rescue (SAR) Team, and Indonesian authorities, CGSS Mavรฉas facilitated maritime coordination and border-crossing procedures to ensure the survivorโs safe return to Philippine territory.
The repatriation effort was supported by various national and local government agencies, including the Philippine Navy, Philippine Air Force, Office of Civil Defense, Department of the Interior and Local Government, and the Bureau of Immigration. The officers and crew of BRP Artemio Ricarte (PS-37) also provided maritime security and es**rt during the operation.
CGDSEM remains committed to its mandate of safeguarding lives at sea, strengthening inter-agency cooperation, and providing humanitarian assistance to distressed Filipinos. Meanwhile, search and rescue operations continue for the four remaining missing individuals.

Beyond safeguarding seas, the Coast Guard District Southeastern Mindanao (CGDSEM) took part in the Day 2 of Brigada Eskwela at
Francisco Bustamante Central Elementary School, Davao City on 02 June 2026.
Together with teachers, parents, and community volunteers, CGDSEM personnel contributed in preparing a safe, clean, and welcoming learning environment for the nation's future leaders.
Through this initiative, the CGDSEM continues to uphold its commitment to public service, community engagement, and nation-building.

The Philippine Coast Guard, through BRP MALAMAWI (FPB-2403), conducted its Turnover of Command Ceremony on 02 June 2026 at Headquarters Coast Guard District Southeastern Mindanao, marking the formal transition of leadership between the outgoing and incoming Commanding Officers.
The ceremony was presided over by the Commodore JAYBOM J CALICA PCG, Acting Commander, Coast Guard District Southeastern Mindanao (CGDSEM), and attended by Coast Guard personnel, guests, and stakeholders.
The outgoing Commanding Officer, CAPT RAFAEL A GENERAL PCG, formally relinquished command and transferred the duties, responsibilities, and authority of the vessel to the incoming Commanding Officer, LTJG ARNOLD B DUGAO PCG signifying the continuity of leadership and operational excellence within the unit.
During the ceremony, recognition was accorded to the outgoing Commanding Officer for his dedicated service and valuable contributions to the accomplishment of the unit's mission. The incoming Commanding Officer likewise pledged to uphold the Philippine Coast Guard's mandate and continue strengthening the vessel's operational readiness in the performance of maritime safety, maritime security, marine environmental protection, and maritime law enforcement functions.
The turnover of command reflects the Philippine Coast Guard's commitment to maintaining a professional, capable, and mission-ready organization anchored on its core values of Honor, Respect, and Devotion to Duty, ensuring continuous service to the Filipino people and the maritime community.

The Coast Guard District Southeastern Mindanao (CGDSEM) has received confirmation from its Indonesian counterpart regarding the successful recovery of one of the passengers from the distressed MBCA Quessel-J in the vicinity of Kamboreng Island, North Sulawesi, Indonesia, on 31 May 2026.
The survivor, identified as Mr. Jeboy Masalta, was reportedly sighted by a local fisherman at approximately 4:00 a.m. while stranded on Kamboreng Island. Local residents immediately responded and safely recovered the survivor before transporting him to Kawio Island for initial medical assessment and care.
Based on the survivor's account, a total of five persons were onboard MBCA Quessel-J prior to the maritime incident. The whereabouts of the remaining four passengers remain unknown.
Following the recovery of Mr. Masalta, local authorities and residents initiated search efforts in the surrounding waters and nearby islands for possible additional survivors. During the conduct of the search, the distressed MBCA Quessel-J was located between 6:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. local time. The vessel was found with damage on its port side and partially flooded before being towed ashore to Kawio Island.
According to reports, Mr. Masalta is experiencing physical exhaustion and psychological distress but remains hopeful that his four companions may still be alive in the area where he was initially found.
Following this lead, CGDSEM remains in constant coordination with Indonesian maritime authorities for information sharing, case validation, and operational updates. Simultaneously, CGDSEM, in coordination with other maritime law enforcement agencies, national government agencies, and local government units, continues to conduct Search and Rescue (SAR) operations to locate the four missing passengers.
The CGDSEM, remains committed to exhausting all available means and maintaining close interagency and international coordination to support the ongoing SAR mission and ensure the safe recovery of the remaining missing passengers.

The Coast Guard District Southeastern Mindanao (CGDSEM), through Coast Guard Station (CGS) Davao Occidental, continues its search and rescue (SAR) operations for the missing passenger of Motorbanca (MBCA) QUEESEL J, which reportedly sank in the waters off Olanivan Island, Sarangani, Davao Occidental on 28 May 2026.
To support the ongoing operation, CGDSEM deployed BRP Malamawi (MRRV-2403) to conduct maritime search operations across the designated search area.
The operation is being carried out through close inter-agency coordination. The Philippine Navy has deployed BRP Tausug (LC-803), BRP Artemio Ricarte (PS-37), and BA-488 IMPACT to augment maritime search efforts, while the Philippine Air Force has deployed Black Hawk 754 to conduct aerial reconnaissance and expand search coverage.
To further enhance search capabilities in coastal and nearshore areas, the Philippine Coast Guard also utilized four (4) loaned motorbancas from local stakeholders, enabling wider coverage of the operational area.
Despite challenging sea and weather conditions, all participating units remain committed to sustaining coordinated search efforts and maximizing available resources in the ongoing mission to locate the missing passenger.
CGDSEM reaffirms its commitment to safeguarding lives at sea and will continue to work closely with partner agencies, local government units, stakeholders, and volunteer responders until the operation is concluded.

The Coast Guard District Southeastern Mindanao (CGDSEM), through Coast Guard Station (CGS) Davao Occidental, together with other maritime law enforcement agencies and local responders, continues the ongoing search and rescue (SAR) operations near Olanivan Island, Sarangani, Davao Occidental following the reported sinking of Motorbanca QUESSEL J carrying five passengers on 28 May 2026.
According to reports, the passengers were traveling from Barangay Barrio Bukid in Jose Abad Santos, Davao Occidental to Barangay Camalig in Sarangani Island when they encountered rough sea conditions and strong winds, causing the vessel to reportedly submerge.
The alleged distressed vessel was reportedly operated by Jeboy Masalta and carried passengers Ariel Quia Tablingon, Aljude Ivan Quia Tablingon, Joreden Butal, and Rexex Jacar Quia.
The incident was reported to Coast Guard Sub-Station (CGSS) Patuco at around 5:40 p.m. May 28, 2026. Upon receipt of the report, CGS Davao Occidental promptly initiated search and rescue operations and coordinated with concerned agencies for immediate response.
Personnel from CGSS Maveas and CGSS Patuco, together with responders from the MDRRMO and PNP Maritime Group-Sarangani, continue to conduct search operations within the identified area despite challenging weather and sea conditions.
CGS Davao Occidental also issued a Notice to Mariners for widest dissemination to alert and inform all sea-going vessels within the area and enhance maritime safety during the ongoing operations.
