THE TWO FILIPINO SAINTS 🇵🇭
The Philippines has given the Catholic Church two canonized saints, both of whom courageously offered their lives rather than abandon their faith in Jesus Christ.
St. Lorenzo Ruiz is the first Filipino saint. He was a husband, father, and lay missionary who suffered martyrdom in Nagasaki, Japan, on September 29, 1637. He was canonized by Pope St. John Paul II on October 18, 1987.
St. Pedro Calungsod is the second Filipino saint. He was a young catechist and missionary who was martyred in Guam on April 2, 1672, at approximately 17 years old. He was canonized by Pope Benedict XVI on October 21, 2012.
Separated by generations but united by the same love for Christ, these two Filipino saints remind us that true faith knows no age, no boundaries, and no fear—even in the face of death.
St. Lorenzo Ruiz and St. Pedro Calungsod, pray for us and for the Filipino nation! 🇵🇭❤️
