BLBBC10 SUCCESSFULLY WRAPPED UP

The National Center for Biosafety and Biosecurity (NCBB) officially concluded the 10th and final batch of the Basic Laboratory Biosafety and Biosecurity Course (BLBBC) last May 25–29, 2026, at Hotel Kimberly Manila.

Representing institutions from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, all delegates successfully passed the intensive 5-day onsite course. The NCBB commends the participants for their dedication to elevating biosafety standards nationwide.

Upcoming Center Updates:
1. Curriculum Revision: Following this milestone batch, the BLBBC will be temporarily paused as the Center reviews and updates the curriculum to ensure consistent alignment with DOH guidelines.

2. SOP Writing and Validation Training: The NCBB is currently conducting an interest check among BLBBC alumni for a potential training session in July 2026. The announcement has been sent to their respective email addresses.

3. IATA Training (July 22–23, 2026): Official registration is now open. Please refer to our pinned post for more details.

NOW OPEN: IATA Training (July 22-23, 2026)

The National Center for Biosafety and Biosecurity – National Institutes of Health, UP Manila is now accepting interested participants for the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Shipment of Biological and Infectious Substances Training on July 22-23, 2026 to be held at Hotel Kimberly Manila.

The 2-day course is designed to train participants on the requirements for becoming an IATA-certified shipper. This has pending CPD application for Medical Technologists.

The registration fee costs PhP 8,000.00 per participant, exclusive of participant's transportation and hotel accommodation, and other fees such as bank fees, taxes, transactions costs, etc.

NCBB CONCLUDES 2ND BATCH OF BRM & CHEM SAFETY AND SECURITY TRAINING

On April 14–15, 2026, the National Center for Biosafety and Biosecurity successfully concluded the second batch of the Introduction to Biorisk Management and Chemical Safety and Security Training, held at Hotel Kimberly Manila. The training was granted 12 CPD units for registered Chemists.

The training was attended by 26 participants from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, comprising of laboratory personnel, researchers, and instructors.

Mr. Frederick John B. Navarro and Dr. Jeryl Belle C. Rafanan, both experts in their respective fields and graduates of advanced courses of the NCBB, led the 2-day training.

The NCBB aims to ensure that laboratories are well-equipped to safely and responsibly handle chemicals and other hazardous substances, in line with national and international standards, through continuous training and capacity-building initiatives.

STRENGTHENING BIOSAFETY: BLBBC BATCH 9 CONCLUDES WITH 29 PASSERS

Now on its 9th batch, the Basic Laboratory Biosafety and Biosecurity Course (BLBBC) officially concluded on March 23–27, 2026, at Hotel Kimberly Manila, with 29 successful passers.

The 5-day course, with 20 approved CPD units, combined plenary sessions, group discussions, actual demonstrations, and a laboratory visit in compliance with DOH AO 2021-0037.

The participants came from various private and public institutions across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao and were guided by expert lecturers from the NCBB.

The successful completion of BLBBC Batch 9 reflects the Center’s continued commitment to strengthening biosafety and biosecurity practices nationwide by equipping professionals with essential knowledge and skills to advance safe and responsible laboratory operations.

FIRST IATA TRAINING FOR 2026

The first batch of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Shipment of Biological and Infectious Substances Training was successfully conducted at the UP National Institutes of Health Conference Room last March 4-5, 2026.

The two-day training gathered 31 participants from various private and government institutions, bringing together professionals involved in the handling and transport of biological materials.

Throughout the training, participants gained a deeper understanding of IATA regulations governing the shipment of biological and infectious substances. The program provided hands-on learning on proper classification of biological materials, transport packaging, and shipment procedures in accordance with both domestic and international standards.

The NCBB is still accepting participants for the BLBBC Batch 10 and Introduction to Biorisk Management & Chemical Safety and Security Training.
