The Municipal Agriculture Office (MAO), in coordination with the Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO), continues to strengthen its efforts to protect the municipalityโs swine industry through regular monitoring and active surveillance for African Swine Fever (ASF).
As part of the municipalityโs ASF surveillance activities, ASF samples were collected from pigs in different barangays and subjected to cPCR (conventional Polymerase Chain Reaction) testing. Recent ASF test results were NEGATIVE, indicating the absence of ASF infection in the municipality.
While this is encouraging news, continued vigilance remains essential. A negative test result does not mean that we can lower our guard. ASF is a highly contagious viral disease affecting domestic and wild pigs, and its introduction can have serious consequences for hog raisers, backyard farms, and the local economy.
All hog owners, farmers, traders, and residents are encouraged to practice strict biosecurity measures, including:
๐น Avoid buying or bringing in live hogs from unauthorized or unverified sources.
๐น Do not transport live pigs, fresh pork, frozen pork, pork products, or pork by-products into the municipality without the required authorization and documentation.
๐น Limit unnecessary visitors and movement in and out of pig-raising areas.
๐น Disinfect footwear, equipment, vehicles, and other materials that may come into contact with pigs.
๐น Do not feed pigs with unsafe or improperly handled food scraps or swill.
๐น Monitor pigs regularly for signs of illness, sudden weakness, loss of appetite, fever, unusual skin discoloration, bleeding, or sudden death.
๐น Immediately report unusual sickness or sudden death among pigs to the Municipal Agriculture Office or the appropriate authorities.
๐น Report any unauthorized entry or movement of live hogs, fresh or frozen pork, pork products, and pork by-products to the Municipal Agriculture Office for proper verification and action.
Let us continue to work together, remain vigilant, and follow proper biosecurity practices. Prevention is our strongest defense against ASF.
