NBI ARRESTS DAWLAH ISLAMIYAH MAGIUID MEMBER AT NAIA FOR 2018 GENERAL SANTOS CITY BOMBING
PASAY CITY, Philippines – The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) confirms the succesful arrest of an alleged member of the Dawlah Islamiyah Maguid terror group at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 on February 25, 2026.
The operation, led by the NBI–Central Mindanao Regional Office (NBI-CEMRO) in coordination with the NBI–Sarangani District Office (NBI-SARDO), demonstrated exceptional inter-agency coordination and operational precision. Specialized units—including the NBI - Intelligence Service, International Airport Investigation Division (NBI-IAID), Counter-Terrorism Division (NBI-CTD), and International Operations Division (NBI-IOD)—worked in seamless coordination to ensure the mission’s success. The high-impact arrest was further reinforced by the tactical support of the Philippine National Police (PNP), particularly its Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) and Intelligence Group, underscoring a unified and resolute front against both domestic and transnational threats.
The Warrant of Arrest, issued by the Regional Trial Court Branch 23 of General Santos City, was served to Subject for multiple counts of frustrated murder. The charges stem from the 2018 bombing in General Santos City—an act of terror attributed to remnants of the Dawlah Islamiyah–Maguid Group. Intelligence reports identify the Subject as a key personality who played a central role in both the strategic planning and the ex*****on of the improvised explosive device (IED) attack. The explosion left eight civilians critically injured, including a three-year-old child.
The Subject attempted to evade prosecution by fleeing to the United States. However, the reach of the law proved global; following his detention by U.S. Immigration Authorities for violations of immigration laws, he was processed for deportation and met with immediate arrest by NBI agents the moment he touched down on Philippine soil.
This successful extraction and arrest underscore the unwavering strength of cooperation between local and international law enforcement agencies. The NBI reaffirms its steadfast commitment to pursuing individuals who threaten national security, sending a clear message that no matter how far a fugitive flees, they will ultimately be brought to answer before the full force of Philippine law.
