On July 9, 2026, Charlotte Roa-Calimlim,Market Supervisor III, actively participated in the Committee Hearing on the Localized Implementation of DILG OSEC 2025-08-11-008, issued by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) on **October 5, 2025.

The hearing served as a venue for collaborative discussions among local officials and concerned offices to strengthen policy implementation, promote public health and safety, and ensure effective regulation within the municipality.

July 7, 2026 | DTI Zambales together with LPCC Members conducted market monitoring enforcement activities at New Iba Public Market, Iba, Zambales. 55 stalls monitored, 2 defective weighing scales confiscated.

The said activity aims to address and prevent unreasonable price increases of essential, basic and prime commodities and ensure market vendors' compliance with Business Name regulations and permits, Price Tag Law and other Fair-Trade laws and conduct of "Operation Timbangan". Vendors were also reminded of the importance of meat safety handling and good public market practices.

HOW TO IDENTIFY IMPORTED RICE

As consumers, it is important to know the type of rice we are buying. While quality may vary depending on the variety, many imported rice products are commonly recognized through the following characteristics:
🌾 Whole and Uniform Grains – Imported rice often has grains that are longer, more uniform in size, and have fewer broken pieces.
🌾 Minimal Broken Grains – Compared to some local varieties, imported rice usually contains fewer "putol" or broken grains.
🌾 Clean and Polished Appearance – Imported rice is often well-milled and polished, giving it a smooth, shiny, and consistent look.
🌾 Packaging and Labeling – Check the sack or packaging. Imported rice should indicate the country of origin, importer, and other product details as required by regulations.
🌾 Price and Variety Name – Some imported rice varieties are marketed under specific names and may differ in price from locally produced rice.

📌 Reminder: The appearance of rice alone does not always guarantee whether it is imported or locally produced. Consumers are encouraged to check product labels and buy only from legitimate and compliant rice retailers.

On June 11, 2026, the Economic Enterprise Management Unit, in coordination with the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), conducted a Price Monitoring and Saturation Drive
at the New Iba Public Market in line with Executive Order No. 118, s. 2026, which mandates a price ceiling on imported rice.

The inspection was undertaken to ensure compliance with the imposed price ceiling and to safeguard consumers against unreasonable price increases.

We are pleased to report that the New Iba Public Market is compliant with the provisions of EO No. 118, s. 2026, reflecting the commitment of market vendors and stakeholders to fair trade practices and consumer welfare.
