On June 10, 2026, MSU-IIT ILIGANiCE, in partnership with MSU-IIT iDEYA, conducted a Design Thinking Workshop for the Grade 6 pupils of Tambo Central School, facilitated by TBI Manager Mr. Constantino Brasileรฑo.
The pupils were asked to identify problems from their own daily lives โ and some answers were as funny as they were relatable, like not being able to wake up on time, a dog that won't stop distracting them while studying, or simply never feeling comfortable enough to sleep well. Their solutions, though, were surprisingly clever: an alarm clock that sprays water to force you out of bed, an interactive play-cage to keep dogs entertained while their owners study, a duvet with adjustable hot, warm, and cold settings for better sleep, and many more.
This is the core of what design thinking teaches: notice a problem, ask why it matters, and build toward a solution. By introducing this process while pupils are still young, we hope to plant an innovation mindset early, giving these pupils a head start they can carry well into college and the workplace. The goal isn't to produce finished inventions, but to build the habit of thinking like a problem-solver.
Programs like this show what's possible when young learners are given the space to think, question, and create โ and we hope more schools continue to see the value of bringing design thinking into the classroom.
We extend our sincere appreciation to Tambo Central School for welcoming us, to Grade 6 Adviser Ms. Jennifer S. Cataluรฑa for her support throughout the workshop, and to the Grade 6 pupils for their enthusiasm and creativity.
