ADVANCING REGIONWIDE HEALTHCARE THROUGH GOOD GOVERNANCE AND PERFORMANCE EXCELLENCE

September 30, 2026 -- Western Visayas Medical Center (WVMC), through the Office of Strategy Management and the Office of the Medical Center Chief, successfully hosted DUMÁLA: 1st Annual Governance Summit at District 21 Hotel, Mandurriao, Iloilo City.

Rooted in the Hiligaynon word for "governance," DUMÁLA embodies the Ilonggo spirit of leadership, stewardship, and shared responsibility—shifting healthcare management from identifying operational challenges to executing high-impact, measurable strategies across Region VI.

The summit brought together key partners from national government agencies, local government units (LGUs), public and private healthcare facilities, WVMC Multi-sector Governance Council, and academic institutions to break down institutional silos and build a unified, resilient healthcare network.

Transforming Healthcare Delivery: WVMC Takes Center Stage at the 2026 IHOMP Conference

Western Visayas Medical Center (WVMC) continues its commitment to health system excellence as it participates in the 2026 Integrated Hospital Operations and Management Program (IHOMP) Conference held at the Montebello Villa Hotel, Cebu City.

Convened by the Department of Health (DOH) through the Health Facility Development Bureau (HFDB) under Department Personnel Order No. 2026-6053, this national platform brings together hospital leaders, policymakers, and healthcare professionals to exchange knowledge and advance transformative reforms under the Universal Health Care (UHC) Act and the DOH 8-Point Action Agenda.

Anchored on the theme "Transforming Hospital Systems through Quality, Equity, and Innovation," the conference highlights strategic approaches to strengthening hospital governance, patient experience, digital transformation, and continuous quality improvement (CQI).

Representing WVMC as the Regional Apex Hospital in Region VI, key delegates are actively contributing to the national dialogue:

Dr. Renilyn P. Reyes, Medical Specialist IV and Head of the Office of Strategy Management, serves as a Resource Speaker on September 22, 2026, delivering the talk "From Commitment to Transformation: Recognizing IHOMP Champions."

Her feature presentation, titled "Trained to Cure, Governed to Care: The WVMC Transformation Story," showcases WVMC’s governance journey, highlighting how the institution achieved 1st Place in IHOMP Standard Compliance (CY 2025), harmonized system frameworks, integrated digital systems, and established 13 specialized clinical centers to serve over 4.9 million Filipinos.

To continuously optimize patient care flow and improve emergency service response across the province, Western Visayas Medical Center (WVMC) convened with the Iloilo Province Hospital Management Office (HPMO) and Chiefs of Hospitals for a strategic Coordination Meeting yesterday, September 17, 2026, at the 3rd Floor Conference Room, Building H.

The collaborative session addressed key emergency service trends and healthcare referral pathways across Iloilo Province. Dr. Patricia Tobias (OIC, Chief Medical Professional Staff) and Dr. Maria Doris Cordova (Head, Public Health Unit) opened discussions on care continuity. WVMC emergency trends were presented by Dr. Tamara Michelle Dominado (Medical Specialist II, Emergency Dept.), alongside provincial hospital capabilities detailed by Dr. Don Garcia (Acting PGADH - Office of the Provincial Management Officer). To streamline top clinical case referrals, Dr. Lemuel Umahag (Asst. CMPS-Specialty Centers) introduced a proposed compendium. Western Visayas Medical Center (WVMC) warmly receives key health officials and delegates from the Department of Health (DOH) Central Office, Regional Centers for Health Development, and DOH-retained hospitals for the CY 2026 1st Semester Nationwide Performance and Budget Utilization Review (PBUR) Facility Visit today, September 18, 2026, at the 3rd Floor Conference Room, Building H.

The delegation includes distinguished leaders such as DOH Cluster A OIC–Assistant Secretary Dr. Lester M. Tan, DOH CHD Western Visayas Regional Director Dr. Mar Wynn D. Bello, DOH Bicol CHD Regional Director Dr. Voltaire S. Guadalupe, and medical center chiefs representing Culion Sanitarium and General Hospital, Zamboanga Regional Medical Center, and Batangas Medical Center.

Strengthening Care, Expanding Coverage: PhilHealth CEO Visits WVMC

September 15, 2026 - PhilHealth Acting President and Chief Executive Officer Dr. Beverly Lorraine C. Ho conducted an official hospital visit to the Western Visayas Medical Center (WVMC) in Mandurriao, Iloilo City.

The visit brought together key hospital leadership, including members of the Management Committee (MANCOM), Department Heads, and Specialty Heads, as convened by WVMC Medical Center Chief II Dr. Joseph Dean L. Nicolo.

The primary focus of the visit centers on reinforcing the No-Copayment Policy mandated under Section 9 of Republic Act No. 11223 (Universal Health Care Act) and implemented through PhilHealth Circular 2020-0024. Under these regulations, all members admitted to basic or ward accommodations are granted immediate benefit coverage with zero additional fees or professional charges.

ILOILO CITY, Philippines — A new chapter in regional healthcare delivery officially unfolded on August 12, 2026, as the Western Visayas Medical Center (WVMC) hosted the inauguration and blessing of its newly renewed facility, Building H.

Formerly the home of the Department of Health (DOH) Western Visayas Center for Health Development (CHD) in Mandurriao, Iloilo, the transformed structure marks a major milestone in strengthening accessible, compassionate, and quality healthcare across the region.

The ceremony brought together key leaders and stakeholders from the DOH and WVMC, reaffirming a unified commitment to upgrading regional medical infrastructures.

The event was spearheaded by WVMC Medical Center Chief Dr. Joseph Dean L. Nicolo, who welcomed guests and highlighted the hospital's continuous journey toward medical excellence. Among the distinguished health officials gracing the milestone were DOH CHD VI Regional Director Dr. Mar Wynn D. Bello, Director of the Health Facilities Enhancement Program (HFEP) Dr. Phoebe S.
